ROULETTES
• Roulettes are curves usually developed by a fixed point on a rolling
curve that rolls without slipping along the fixed base curve
• Cycloids
• Trochoids
• Epicycloids
• Hypocycloids
• Involute
• The principle of cycloidal curves are basically used for tooth profile of gears
TROCHOIDS
• Trochoids are curves traced by locus of a point fixed to a circle,
outside or within its circumference as it rolls without slipping along a
straight line
• Superior Trochoid
• A circular disc of 40 mm diameter. Rolls on along a straight line for one revolution
clockwise. Diaw the locus of a point which lies at 30 mm from the center of the
disc.
HELIX (UPON A CYLINDER)
• The helix is a curve generated on the surface of the cylinder by a point which
revolves uniformly around the cylinder and at the same time either up or down
its surface
• A spiral or anything else modeled like a spiral is called a helix.
• Helix is the shape formed from the screw thread. Some
• Examples include include screws and helical and worm gears.
