DEHYDRATION
This refer to excessive loss of water from the body,
usually through perspiration or sweating , urination , or evaporation. DEHYDRATION Increased thirst and a dry or sticky mouth Dark Urine Signs of fatigue, confusion or anger Fever Dry eyes or blurred vision Headaches or disorientation Muscle cramps Lack of sweat SAFETY PROTOCOL
• Don’t wait until you feel thirsty to drink
• Make sure water is within easy reach day and night • Have between 6 to 8 cups of fluids a day • Don’t skip meals • Drink water, milk and broth, but avoid alcoholic beverages OVEREXERTION/OVERTRAINING
This refer to detrimental cause of
excessive training. OVEREXERTION/OVERTRAINING • Blue Lips/ Fingers - Nausea • Profusely Sweating - Sore Muscles • Shortness of Breath - Dizziness • Irregular Heart Beat - Lack of Coordination • Chest Pain SAFETY PROTOCOL • Decrease in total number of sets or exercises or both is recommended • Know your limits • Stretch and warm up before any heavy lifting or strenuous activity • Lift properly • Set obtainable goals • Stay hydated HYPERTHERMIA
This is an alarming rise in body temperature,
which is an effect of exercising in a very humid environment. SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS • Headache • Coma • Mental confusion • Chills • Convulsions • Cramp SAFETY PROTOCOL • Drink 2 cups of fluids 2 hours before you exercise • Drink 4-8 ounces of fluids every 15-20 minutes during exercise • Wear light clothing, allowing air to circulate and cool the body • Do not wear rubber , plastic clothing • Rest frequently in the shade area • Use wet towels or dampen clothing with water when the heat is extreme • Avoid hot, heavy meals • Avoid alcohol HYPOTHERMIA Excessively low body temperature. Characterized by uncontrollable shivering, loss of coordination, and mental confusion. SAFETY PROTOCOL • Use a buddy system • Adjust your work schedule to the cold or changing weather • Layer clothing • Eat and drink hot or warm food and liquids SAFETY PROTOCOL • To relieve pain, it is necessary to warm the affected area of raise the core temperature • If the victim is unconscious , bring to shelter or keep in warm room • If the victim is conscious , open airway and check for breathing • Replace wet clothes with dry ones • Give high energy foods and warm drinks • Cover the head, hands , and feet because heat is lost through the extremities
