INTERVIEW TECHNIQUES
WHAT IS INTERVIEW
 Interviewing techniques are practices that can help
you convince hiring managers that you are the best
candidate for the job in question. Depending on the
stage and type of the interview, different techniques
can improve your chances of getting hired.

 Nowadays, it's naturally assumed that people are

going to be primed for an interview and the focus is
using the 5Cs that can be incredibly useful for job
seekers preparing for interviews: Character, Culture
Fit, Career Direction, Competence and
Communication Skills.
Here are some interview techniques that can help you
prepare and perform well in an interview:

 Preparation: Have a list of questions ready, and

research your interviewers.
 Body language: Maintain eye contact and positive
body language.
 Communication: Practice effective communication,
and use feedback questions to create a
conversational flow.
 Follow up: Send a thank-you email after the
interview to show your continued interest in the role.
 Active listening: Pay attention to what the
candidate is saying, and create a distraction-free
environment.
 Behavioral interviews: Expect to be asked about
your past experiences and how you handled them.
 Group interviews: Employers use
group interviews to assess candidates'
skills and fit for the job.
 Panel interviews: Research your
interviewers and practice interview
questions.
 Phone interviews: Employers use
phone interviews to assess if you're a
good fit for the job.
 Informational interviews: Job-seekers
use informational interviews to gather
knowledge about the market they're
entering.
Types of interviews
There are several different types of interview styles you can use
to screen candidates, such as:

 In-person interviews: In-person interviews are held at the

worksite, with both the interviewee and interviewer present.
 Virtual interviews: These interviews are conducted completely
online.
 Phone interviews: Employers often use these interviews to
prescreen candidates before scheduling an in-person interview.
 One-on-one interviews: One-on-one interviews involve just one
interviewer and one interviewee.
 Panel interviews: A group of interviewers, such as the hiring
manager, supervisor and a member of HR, interview a single
candidate.
 Multiple interviews: Typically, employers continue to narrow
down the candidate selection pool after each round of
interviews.
 Lunch interviews: Lunch interviews can be very effective when
hiring passive candidates. Candidates aren’t expected to take
time off work.
Other tips include:
 Arriving early

 Having multiple copies of your resume

 Demonstrating cultural fit

 Showcasing problem-solving skills

 Handling stress and nervousness

 Dressing appropriately
