INTRODUCTION

 ANALYTIC FUNCTION :
A function f(z) is said to be analytic at a point ‘z’ if ‘z’ is an interior
Point of some region where f(z) is analytic .

 MAPPING OF COMPLEX FUNCTION:

Mapping of a complex function refers to how a complex function
Transforms input complex numbers .This involves analysing how the function takes points in
complex plane (usually represented as z=x+i where x and y are real numbers) and maps them to
new points based on function rules.
Key concepts:
• Analytic functions
• Conformal mapping
• Riemann surfaces
• visulation

CONFORMAL MAPPING

 If the angle of intersection of the curves C1 and C2 at P is equal to

the angle of intersection of the curves C’1 and C’2 at P’ both in
magnitude and sense then the mapping is said to be CONFORMAL at
point P.

 If the angle between C1 and C2 at P is equal to the angle between C’1

and C’2 at P’ in magnitude only then the mapping is said to be
isogonal.
Conformal Property Of Analytic
Functions
 THEOREM : If w=f(z) is an analytic function and f’(z)≠0 in a
region R of z-plane then the mapping w=f(z) is conformal at
all the points of R.

 PROOF :Let P(z) be a point in the region R of z-plane and

P’(w) be the corresponding points in the region R’ of w-
plane . Let Q(z+∂z) be a neighbouring point on a curve C in R
through P and Q(w + ∂w) be the corresponding neighbouring
point on the curve C’ in R.
Let the complex numbers ∂z and ∂w be expressed in
exponential form as
∂z = reˆiθ and ∂w = r’eˆiθ’.

∂w∕∂z = r’/r e
Notes:

1. A point at which f’(z) =0 is called a critical point of the

transformation
w = f(z).
2. Since α’ = α + Φ the curve C’ at p’ is rotated through an angle Φ
=amp .
3. [f’(z)] under the transformation .This angle is called the angle of
rotation.
4. Angle of rotation = ampl.[f’(z)]
5. Since R =limit ∂z ->0 r’/r a small segment in w-plane is R=Іf’(z)І times
the corresponding small segment in z-plane . The ratio R is called the

Coefficient of linear Maginification = Іf’(z)І

Example 1:
Find the angle of rotation and the coefficient of magnification at
z=2 + i under the transformation w=z².

Soln: w = z²,dw/dz = 2z
The transformation is conformal except at z =0.
Hence, the transformation is conformed at z = 2 + i
f’(z₀)= 2 z₀=2(2+i) =4 +2i
Angle of rotation =ampl.[f’(z₀)]
tan‾¹ y/x = tanˉ¹2/4= tan‾¹0.5.
Coefficient of magnification =Іf’(z₀)І = √16+4=2√5.
APPLICATIONS :

 Preservesangle and shape of small

figures usefull in application like fluid
dynamics and arrodynamics.
 In
computer graphics conformal
mapping is used for texture mapping
and mesh generation .By transforming
surfaces,artist one can create realistic
textures on 3D models.
