 Dynamic graphical overview
 Listing of connected IP devices and endpoints

 Provides guidance to solve these errors

Colors and outlines
 When Network Docent is actively scanning, the
Network Overview will update in real-time as
devices are connected or disconnected
 The network diagram will redraw to show how the
devices are connected to each other and show:
 Basic device information
 Connection status
 Status changes
 The color and outline of each bubble and its
connections will show the devices’ status.

Device List (@ right pane)
 Displays devices that are currently connected
to the network
 A basic view will show the device name and
status
 These individual entries can be expanded to
show additional detail about the device
 This information is provided via
OMNEO/AES70 or SNMP. Depending on the
devices’ specific configuration or features, more
or less information may be displayed in this
view.

Device Alerts (@ right pane)
 This list contains devices with a red or
yellow alert
 The number in the red circle represents the
total number of devices with an alert
 Clicking on a device in the Device Alerts list
provides detailed information on that specific
device in the right pane.

Network Alerts (@ left pane)
 Shows all active alerts and the total number
of active alerts in a red circle
 Clicking an alert highlights all applicable
node-symbols in the network drawing
 Allowing you to take action on a specific
alert:
 Troubleshoot: Opens the relevant
Knowledgebase Entry
 Approve: the alert is accepted as being a valid
or known network condition.
 Snooze: postpone action to a later date.

 Keeps track of events and errors that occur
on the network in the Events Log
 A list of the most recent events opens. Each
event is marked with a description and its
severity: Critical, Error or just a Warning
 Possible to Expand the View by clicking or
on one of the events in the Events Log list

Promiscuous mode
 In this mode all traffic on the entire
network will be analyzed
 Switch it off in case lots of multicast traffic
cause problems on the PC running
Network Docent
 your PC might not be capable to analyze all
traffic due to lower performance
 In case it is switched off the exact location
of your PC might be incorrect
 A restart of the application is required
before this change takes effect
