experience required to match the job profile.
Is writing a Job Application
an Art
A well drafted professional Job Application can make your first impression
and can increase your chances that the recruiter opening your resume to
go through it, this can open the doors of success in the corporate world
and it also represents ‘you’ much before your physical presence for any
interview.

Refining your writing style will improve the quality of your application.
Employers are looking for confident applicants who can convince them of
their capabilities - demonstrate your suitability by giving short, to the
point and positive answers
The Logic of
Job Applications
• Face of the Resume

• For making First impression

• Summary of your Resume

• Matching Job Description

• Professional written Job Application is a key to success

• Recruiter will be left with no option but to see your Resume

• Good positive impression on HR Professionals.

Sections of a Professional
Job Applications

• Addresses Name, Designation, Company Name and Address
• Subject Line
• Opening of Application
• Salutation
• Opening Para about reference
• Main Paragraph of Content
• Concluding Para
• Closure with Positive affirmative Statement

Role of Subject Line in
Job Applications
• Subject Line distinguish it from all other applications and communications

• Prominently written Job line in Bold letters fetches the reader’s attention.

• Your application and the Resume can be segregated easily and fast for the appropriate
role

• With the help of Subject line it can be sent / forwarded to the concerned manager / HR
professional / recruiter.

• It makes your job application professional and impressive.

Logic of Giving Full Name
and Contact Details
Generally candidates think that all relevant contact details are given in Resume so
why they should mention it in Job Application and they only write their name at the
end of Job Application, however it is very important as :

• If Recruiters like the Job Profile they immediately want to contact you for some
important information and readily available contact details are always appreciated

• Sometimes Recruiters don’t get the attachment with the mail due to security
reasons or sometimes the attachment is not opening, in that case contact details
are very handy for recruiters to contact you.

• It is always more professional to give your contact details everywhere you mention
your name at the end, it is appreciated.
Types of
Job Applications

• Short and Sweet Job Applications

• Job Applications with all Essential Details

• Descriptive and Detailed Job Applications

Mistakes You Must
Not Do
in your
Job Application
• Non Professional Layout and Looks

• Multicolored Job Applications

• Spelling / Grammatical Mistakes

• Copied Content

• Length of Job Application

• Quality of Printing and Paper

• Wrong contact details / E mail ID

Why Spellings / Grammatical
Mistakes are Fatal
• It spoils your first impression.

• Recruiters think you are not good in language and that may be a requirement
specially on managerial level.

• You may be considered to be lazy to check it out yourself.

• You may be termed as careless, if you cant check your Job Application, how
can you check company records.

• After reading a job application with spellings and grammatical mistakes,

recruiter may not open your resume to ready even if your achievements and
qualifications are impressive, you lose a change to get shortlisted for your
mistake in Job Application only.
Why can’t Job Application
be Copied from Net
• It spoils your first impression that you can’t even write an application yourself
and that too you have copied from Internet.

• Job Application should be written for a particular job profile and a unique role,
how can you copy everything from net, it is always better to write a new Job
Application for every job you apply as per their needs and requirements.

• Sometimes the level of language is very different on net, you should use your
language to maintain originality and not to copy any content from anywhere.

• Copy is a copy, as a manager you should dig your own well and this is the
managerial expectation from your candidature.
What Employers are looking
for
in Job Applications
• Do you meet their criteria? This information lets them filter candidates into a
'long list'. Make sure you check the job description and prove that you
match the requirements.

• Do you stand out among the other applicants? This is what helps recruiters
make their shortlist for interview. If other candidates have similar
qualifications it may be your work experience or extra-curricular activities
that reveal your employment potential.
A New Market Trend –
Online Job Applications

• Directly applicants can apply online on company’s website.

• Directly certificates and other documents can be uploaded for recruiters to

view.

• There is no need to draft any job application in this case, only the required
columns are required to be filled and if required photograph to be uploaded.

• Online Job Application can be filled with Social Media account information like
LinkedIn or from your resume also.

• It is easy for recruiter to compare and segregate profiles as per their

requirements.
What Employers are looking
for in Job Applications

When assessing an application for a job, recruiters want to know two things:

• Do you meet their criteria - this information let them filter candidates from a
'long list'. Make sure you check the job description and prove that you match
the requirements.

• Do you stand out among the other applicants - this is what helps recruiters
make their shortlisted candidates for interview. If other candidates have
similar qualifications it may be your work experience or extra-curricular
activities or social work or awards and rewards you have received that reveal
your employment potential
Steps to complete
a
Job Application
Form
• Step 1. Prepare Yourself

• Step 2. Find out what the employer wants

• Step 3. Write your Job Application

• Step 4. Final Checks

Some things to remember on
Online Job Applications
• Allow plenty of time and make sure you won’t be disturbed. Some online
forms allow you to ‘save and return’ but some have to be completed in one
sitting.
• If possible, print off the form so you can prepare your answers offline. This
gives you thinking time and lets you check your answers before pasting the
text into the form. Use a word document to write longer answers so you can
edit and spell check them first.
• Write for online applications in the same way as you would a formal letter,
beware of lapsing into the informal style you might use when sending emails
to friends or colleagues.
• If you are asked to email your CV, it is likely to be electronically scanned. You
may have to use standard typefaces etc so follow any instructions you are
given. If a recruiter is using scanning software, you'll also need to ensure you
include keywords for the specific skills and qualifications that they have
asked for.
• Some online application forms include built-in psychometric tests, so it’s
useful to get some practice in first.
• Keep a copy for reference: print out the form before you hit ‘send’.
Job Application
Checklist

• Are your personal details accurate?

• Have you spelled the employer's name correctly?

• Have you filled in all the fields?

• Have you provided any documents or identification

(scans, attachments etc) that they ask for ?

• Have you kept a copy?

Job Application Tips
• Take your time: it could take several hours and a lot of concentration to
complete an application form.

• Think about what's behind each question: what are recruiters looking for?

• Keep a copy for reference: if it’s a paper form, photocopy it; if it’s online,
print it out before you hit ‘send’.

• Make sure you meet all the employer’s criteria, and make it easy for them to
see this.
