GLYCEROLES
Defination:
 Mixture of solution of mother tincture in glycerine.

 Jelly like consistencies.

Preparation:
Principle:1 part of M.tincture mix with 9 part of
glycerine.
Requirements: clean
phial,cork,M.tincture,balance,glycerine,weighing
bottles,pen paper,gum
Procedure:
Take clean one phial

Add glycerine&required M.tincture

Fix the cork &shaking

Prepared homogenous mixture

USE: Anti fungal


Anti bacterial
Anti pruritic
Precaution:purity should be done
Cleansing properly
Mir till colour become uniform
For external use only

Glycerole of starch:
Starch-1 part
Glycerine-8 part

Mix in glass mortar pestle

Transfer in porcelain dish

Apply heat
Stir constantly

Jelly like preparation ready


Examples:
Calendula glyceroles
Borax glyceroles
Glyceroles of starch
Glycerole of carbolic acid
LINIMENTS(EMBROCATION)
Defination
 Application of an oily/spiritious consistence
 Mixture of diff. medicine in oil, alcoholis solution

of soap
 Suitable for rubbing/painting over skin

 Serve protective coating

Principle;
1 part M.tincture+9 part olive oil
1part medicine+4 part of tincture soap
PROCEDURE:
Take 1 clean phial

Add olive oil+M.tincture

Fix cork homogenous mixture ready by vigorous


shaking.
Tincture soap:
Soft soap 10gm
Strong alcohol25ml
P.Water 16ml
Dissolve with gentle heat
Precautions:
 Label must be done.
 For external use only.

 Shake well before use.

Uses;
Rheumatic pain, Blow
Loosen the phlegm accumulate after catching cold
Examples:
Arnica liniments
Rhus tox liniments
Ruta liniments, Bryonia liniments
OPODELDOCS
Defination:
These are semi soild liniments
Ingredients:
White curd soap:140gm
p.water:266ml
strong alcohol:444ml
M.tincture:100ml
PROCEDURE:
White curd soap + purified water
gentle heat
Solution become transparent
add strong alcohol
add M. tinctue,stirred well
Strained

Poured into suitable phial


Uses:
Bruises, sprains, Rheumatic pain.
LOTIONS:
Defination:
These are liquid suspensors in aqueous media
Used as external application over affected parts of body
Principles:
1 part M.tincture+ 9 part of purified water
Procedure:
Take clean round phial

add 1 part of M.tincture+ 9 part purified water

Cork the phial & shake till colour become uniform


Precautions:
Shake before use
For external use
Uses:
Injuries, blows
Bruised pain without bloodshed.
Examples:

CANTHARIS LOTION
EUPHRASIA LOTION
SYMPHYTUM LOTION
CERATES
Defination:
These are unctuous oily substances due to presence of
wax
Easily spread over the surface of ordinary temp. but
maintain solidified state& does not run away as
liquid
Preparation:
Spermaceti-5 parts OR vaseline 16 parts

White wax-2parts paraffin 3 parts

Almond oil 16parts

Taken in clean phial


melted by gentle heat, stirred constantly
Now allowed become cool

1 part M.tincture mix with 9 part of mixture


Uses:
 Burns
 Scalds
 Boils
 Carbuncles
Examples:
 Hemamelis cerates
 Graphites cerates
 Urtica urens cerates
PLASTERS:
Definations:
 these are sticky/solid compounds.
 applied on some part of body,produce general
effects.
Preparation: base-isinglass
1 ounce isinglass taken in shread
Dissolve in purified water by boiling
Filtered the solution with clean towel
Solution evaporated on water bath(reduce to 10
ounces)
Preparation: base-isinglass

Dissolve in purified water by boiling

Filtered the solution with clean towel

Solution evaporated on water bath(reduce to 10 ounces)

Half of sread on pieces of silk,muslin,leather

Remaining half mixed with M. tincture,spreading complete

Direct contact with affected part in homoeopathy

Example:
Aconite plaster
Belladonna plaster
Calendula plaster
Rhus tox plaster
OILS
 Oil bouchi:
Source:seed of a common herbaceous weed psoralea
cortifolial L.
Preparation:
Seed crushed(20 mashes)
Soaked in teel oil
Keep 10 days
Oil is strained & strength adjust.
Uses: psoriasis,boils, leucoderma, tubercles, liver spot,
dirty looking skin
 Oil mullein:
Source: flower extract of verbascum thapsus of family
scrophulariaceae
Preparation:it contains no oil. Excepting essential oil
present in flower itself
Solvent: alcohol,glycerine
1 part flower yield + 10 part mullein essence
Uses:
Earache, discharge from ear, eczema, supurative
inflammation of middle ear.
 Oil olive
Applied externally: burns
skin smoothner, skin disease
Applied orally: as safe purgatives.
Oil of wintergreen:
Source:oil distilled from fresh plant goultheria
prograntissia
Characters:colourless odour strong pungent taste.
Uses:
Gout, rheumatism,pruritis,epididymitis
 Arnica hair oil: 1 part powder of
arnica+10 part of olive oil

for 2 week in warm room


Oil rosemary: perfumes, cosmetics.
INJECTIONS
Definition:
these are liquids to be arranged into any part of body by
means of syringe.
Type of injections:
 Vaginal injections

Ludlam formula: desire drug 15ml


glycerine 45ml, purified water 60ml
 Urethral injections: desired drug

hydrastis M.tincture 30ml,P.water 600ml


 Rectal injections: prescribed quantity drug

arrow root water 60ml

OINTMENTS
Defination:
These are semi solid preparation,they should have required
consistency,so that they may be readily applied on skin by rubbing.
They should be soft & do not require melting on application they also
called ‘Therapeutic cream’
Etymology:
l. unguentum,a salve
Principle:
1 part M.tincture+9 part vaseline
Procedure: vaseline put on clean slab

M.tincture poured over it

mix with spatula,colour become uniform, thus ointment


is prepared
Modern methods of preparation of ointments:
 Trituration method:

These method applicable when medicament is in powdered


form
Made on glass slab with spatula
Slab is usually made of ground glass and spatula of stainless
steel
Spatula act as roller,to cover any particle in ointment mixture
At the end of operation,slight twist of wrist is required to
reserve direction of movement of spatula
Storage: cool dark place
prevent to contact with air
refrigerated.
Precautions:
Purity test before use
Cleansing,mixing carefully
Labelling must be done
Uses:
Piles,ulceration,itching,bruices,blow,black eye,bed
sores,burns,fistula,lepra,psoriasis,lupus etc.
Examples:
Arnica ointment
Iodine ointment
Menthol ointment
Hypericum ointment
POULTICES
Characteristics:
They are soft,semi solid
Must contain medicaments
Relieve pain by relaxing tension& promoting perspiration
 Varieties: 1.bread poultices
2.charcoal poultices
3.linseed meal poultices: it retains heat&moisture for long
time but liable to irritate delicate inflamed skin
4 carrot poultices: boil carrot turn into mash with fork
apply in ordinary way
to make wound cleaner& healthier
 Uses: pneumonia, bronchitis, pericardiatis, boils
FOMENTATION
 Hot fomentation:
Take 2 fold piece of flamel large enough to cover affected part

Immerse this folded flannel in kettle

Lift it by pair of tongs/stick,put on winger

Stout towel/duster with stick to both ends

Water squeezed out as much as possible

Flannel applied to affected part cover with large piece of ribber sheeting/oiled silk

Extending about inch beyond flannel

Place over thick layer of cottonwool/ bandage

Flanned should be changed every 20/30 min


Uses:
Relieving pain.
Arresting inflammation
Cold fomentation:
It is done to relieve temp. either by cold/ice bag
Wet a sterilised clean cloth in cold purified water leave it
uncovered

To permit evaporation,apply on affected part


Ice bag: broke is small pieces of ice

Filled3/4th part of rubber bag

Mouth of bag is tightly fitted


 Dry fomentation:
Dry heated substance: flannel,chamomile
flower,salt,sand
Thoroughly heat substance it should be place in bag

Hot water bag is used

Filled up with moderate hot water in ¾ part

By pressing mouth of bag,some amt. of water excelled

Then mouth of bag fitted
