INTRODUCTION

 Jute is a long soft , shiny vegetable


fiber.
 It can be spun into coarse , strong
threads.
 Known as the “GOLDEN FIBER” due
to its color and Value.
IMPORTANCE OF JUTE

 Eco-friendly and biodegradable.


 Used in various products :bags ,
ropes , mats , etc.
 Major source of income for many
farmers in countries like India and
Bangladesh
CULTIVATION

 Sowing season : Pre-monsoon period


 Requires warm, humid climate with
plenty of rainfall.
 Seeds sown in well-prepared soil
HARVESTING

 Plants grow 10-12 feet tall


 Harvested when leaves turn yellow
(4-5 months after sowing)
 Stalks cut close to the ground and
bundled
RETTING

 Bundles submerged in water for 20-


30 days
 Bacterial action loosens fibers from
the stalks
 Essential for extracting quality
fibers

 Fibers separated from the stalks by


hand
 Process involves beating the stalks
and pulling out the fibers
