Stage & Production Management –
Backstage Academy (University of Bolton)
Source: UCAS
Backstage academy is based at the University of Bolton,
offering a Stage & Production Management at
Undergraduate level. According to the UCAS website, to
be offered a place on this course, I would need to obtain at
least 64 UCAS points. This course covers Live Concerts,
Theatre, Sporting Events, Corporate events etc.
Personally, I feel that this course could really benefit me
due to the fact it is based on stage management –
something that I have had experience in before through
industry placements. This will allow me to further extend Backstage Academy – Stage & Production Mana
my knowledge and skills on how to run stages, as well as gement
sound and lighting production. Lighting is the area within
events I would like to specialise in.

Mock Interview Research
SLX is an event production company based in Avonmouth, Bristol. Currently, they have
several vacancies based in their Avonmouth Warehouse, ranging from Warehouse & Live
Event’s technician, Moving Lights Technician & finance assistant. The main vacancy that
caught my eye was the 'Warehouse & Live Event's Technician' position.
Whilst this position will be more on the Live Event's side, at times it will include working
within the warehouse, ensuring all the equipment is prepped and ready to be loaded onto
the trucks to be taken on site.
To apply for this role, I need to email the careers email address, that is directly linked to
the HR team with my CV. The main skills needed in this role is to be a good team player,
with high attention to detail with a flexible attitude to working. One of the key skills
needed within this job is problem solving whilst also being under potential pressure.
Mock Interview Reflection
On 21st November, I was invited to my Mock Interview based in The Winter Gardens. It was made clear that I was rather relaxed and
comfortable in myself, showing a good understanding of the technical aspect and what's expected of me within this role. One thing that
has been noted is to ensure that I have several copies of my CV printed well in advanced of an interview, whilst re-printing should I make
any changes. This is due to having printing issues on the day & day before my mock interview, although they did manage to pull the CV
up on the computer.
Furthermore, another thing I could work on for a future interview would be to not repeat some answers, as I did mention 'teamwork' and
'problem solving' a considerable number of times throughout my mock interview. Should I use the same answer twice, try to expand on
the answer making them deeper. During the interview, I was very punctual arriving to the interview well in advanced to make sure I had
enough time to mentally prepare myself. Although due to traffic, I was worried about being potentially being late.
For the mock interview, I was wearing standard clothing as that is what I have worn in the warehouse whilst working on industry
placement. Whilst wearing a suit might be slightly overkill, I should consider smart casual such as a polo shirt black jeans etc and smart
causal shoes.
