At the Master's Table

8
Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he became king,
and he reigned in Jerusalem three months. His mother was
Nehushta, the daughter of Elnathan from
Jerusalem. 9 Jehoiachin did what was evil in the LORD’s
sight, just as his father had done.
10
During Jehoiachin’s reign, the officers of King
Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon came up against Jerusalem
and besieged it. 11 Nebuchadnezzar himself arrived at the
city during the siege. 12 Then King Jehoiachin, along with
the queen mother, his advisers, his commanders, and his
officials, surrendered to the Babylonians.
2 Kings 24:8-12
In the eighth year of Nebuchadnezzar’s reign, he took
Jehoiachin prisoner. 13 As the LORD had said
beforehand, Nebuchadnezzar carried away all the
treasures from the LORD’s Temple and the royal palace.
He stripped away all the gold objects that King Solomon
of Israel had placed in the Temple. 14 King
Nebuchadnezzar took all of Jerusalem captive, including
all the commanders and the best of the soldiers,
craftsmen, and artisans—10,000 in all. Only the poorest
people were left in the land.
2 Kings 24:12-14
31
In the thirty-seventh year of the exile of King Jehoiachin of
Judah, Evil-merodach ascended to the Babylonian throne. He
was kind to Jehoiachin and released him from prison on
March 31 of that year. 32 He spoke kindly to Jehoiachin and
gave him a higher place than all the other exiled kings in
Babylon. 33 He supplied Jehoiachin with new clothes to
replace his prison garb and allowed him to dine in the king’s
presence for the rest of his life. 34 So the Babylonian king
gave him a regular food allowance as long as he lived. This
continued until the day of his death.
Jeremiah 52:31-33

Then Jesus went out from there and
departed to the region of Tyre and
Sidon. 22 And behold, a woman of Canaan
came from that region and cried out to Him,
saying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of
David! My daughter is severely demon-
possessed.”
Matthew 15:21-22
23
But He answered her not a word.
And His disciples came and urged Him, saying,
“Send her away, for she cries out after us.” 24 But
He answered and said, “I was not sent except to the
lost sheep of the house of Israel.” 25 Then she came
and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, help me!”
Mathew 15:23-25
26
But He answered and said, “It is not good to
take the children’s bread and throw it to the
little dogs.”
27
And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little
dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their
masters’ table.”
Matthew 15:26-27
28
“Dear woman,” Jesus said to
her, “your faith is great. Your request is
granted.” And her daughter was
instantly healed.
14
When the time came, Jesus and the
apostles sat down together at the
table. Jesus said, “I have been very
15

eager to eat this Passover meal with you

before my suffering begins. 16 For I tell you
now that I won’t eat this meal again until its
meaning is fulfilled in the Kingdom of God.”
Luke 22:14-16
17
Then he took a cup of wine and gave
thanks to God for it. Then he said, “Take
this and share it among
yourselves. For I will not drink wine
18

again until the Kingdom of God has

come.”
Luke 22:17-18
19
He took some bread and gave thanks
to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces
and gave it to the disciples, saying, “This
is my body, which is given for you. Do
this in remembrance of me.”

After supper he took another cup of
wine and said, “This cup is the new
covenant between God and his people—
an agreement confirmed with my blood,
which is poured out as a sacrifice for
you.
Luke 22:20
20
“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you
hear my voice and open the door, I will come
in, and we will share a meal together as
friends. 21 Those who are victorious will sit
with me on my throne, just as I was
victorious and sat with my Father on his
throne.
