INTRODUCTORY PART

• INTRODUCTION

Dr. Raghunath A. Mashelkar was born in


Marcel, Goa and brought up in Maharashtra. He studied
chemical engineering at the University of Mumbai and
later pursued a PhD from the University of Mumbai.
He became the director general of CSIR in 1995.
After his education, joined NCL, Pune in 1966 and
contributed significantly in polymer science.
He is known for his work in innovation, playing a
key role in shaping India’s science and technological

policies.

few of his contributions that earned him Padma Vibhushan.

4.2) He has also received awards like the ICTP Dirac medal, Global Energy
Prize(by the Russian Federation’s energy association) etc. for his contribution to
various fields besides chemistry.

4.3) He also has received international awards like the Thomson Reuters
Research award, which mashelkar received for his impactful contribution to

distinct areas of scientific research.
