What is MRCS?
Membership of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of Great Britain and
Ireland (MRCS) is a postgraduate diploma for surgeons in the UK and Ireland.
Obtaining this qualification allows a doctor to become a member of one of the four
surgical colleges in the UK and Ireland, namely -
Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the Royal College of Surgeons of England
, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and the
Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland
It comprises two Parts. MRCS part A and objective structured clinical exam
(OSCE ).
Since MRCS is an intercollegiate exam, so after passing part A in any of the above
college one can give part B in same or any of the other colleges. Degree will be
awarded by the college in which Part B/OSCE is given.

CTG);Online- selected venues.

OSCE: Not available in Bangladesh(Planning ongoing)


Exam Rules: (MRCS Part-A)
• The exam consists of two papers, A Basic Science(ABS) paper worth
180 marks (60% of total)
• A Principles of Surgery in General (PoSG) worth 120 marks (40% of
total). Your scores for these are then added numerically and a total
out of 300 is calculated.
• If you can get 210-220 marks then you’ve passed!(It varies)
• All are Single best answers!!
• Time, For ABS it is 3 hours then break and 2 hours for PoSG.So,you
will get 1 minute per question.

Which college to choose?
• There is no difference in value of degree awarded all are equal only
difference is Edinburgh is more immigrant friendly college and England
is more popular and difficult to get through. MRCS Part A exam is
conducted by:

How to book for the exam?
• Create an account on respective college’s website you want to sit for.
• Apply on your desire diet
• Pay via international Credit card(Most difficult step if you aren’t a credit card holder).Passport
endorsement,Permission from mother bank and open international get way.
• Certificate attestation and sending to Royel college of surgeon.(British council/Notary)
