LESSON 4:

MOUNTAINEERING
HIKING AND TREKKING
MOUNTAIN CLIMBING
• is a great workout for your whole body. It
requires strength, endurance, and coordination.
Plus, it's a lot of fun! Mountaineering is an
excellent aerobic workout. Research suggests that
it can help reduce symptoms of chronic diseases
like type II diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and
cancer.
WHAT IS HIKING?
•Hiking is a shorter, easier
journey, commonly walked on
looped marked trails, to-and-
back, or even destination hikes.
WHAT IS TREKKING?
• Trekking always involves a specific
destination. A trekking path goes
through different, often rough terrains
and requires more equipment and
preparedness of the person doing it.

any physical or mental
activity at all.

•Orienteering requires you to
find your way round in
nature using a map and
compass
LESSON 6:
BACKPACKING
HIKING BACKPACK
• hiking pack help keep your hands free while
hiking but can help ensure that you can
bring all of your essentials such as a first aid
kit, water, food, extra layers, etc. A pack
also has features you can't find in a regular
backpack not made for hiking and camping.
