Speed of Sound Presentation
Topic: Effect of
Temperature to speed of
sound
Prepared by:
Mrs. ELENITA B. ESCOTE, TIII
Mintal Comprehensive High School
Objectives:
1. Determine the effect of
temperature on the speed of sound.
2. Infer that vibration creates
sound energy and travels in the
form of sound waves.
3. Describe the hotness and
coldness in terms of its
temperature.

What is sound in physics terms?
A longitudinal travelling wave.
Caused by an oscillation of pressure (the
compression and dilation of particles) in
matter.
Other names for sound are pressure waves,
compression waves, and density waves.
Names derived from the motion of particles that
carry sound.
Situational Analysis:
1.Why would you hear the siren
sound of a fire truck clearly in a
nearby barangay during
nighttime than in daytime?
2.Why is it quieter in areas with
high elevations such as
Tagaytay and Baguio than in
lowlands?
3. What happens when ice
melts?
4. What happens to the
temperature of water as it boils?
5. What is the relationship
between the mass of a material
and the amount of heat it can
transfer?
