What is a Circle?

Presentation Created by: Group 1

What is a Circle?

A circle is a round-shaped figure that

has no corners or edges, which is
formed by a set of point that are at
an equal fixed distance from a fixed
point in the same plane.

In geometry, a circle can be defined

as a closed shape, two-dimensional
closed shape, perfectly curved shape

Introduction

There are many parts of a circle, which includes: the center,

radius, diameter, circumference, etc. Furthermore, in this
presentation, the mentioned parts of a circle above and
other parts will be discussed. This power point will also make
known of the equations used to calculate the measurement
of each parts of a circle

Parts of a circle

The distance from the center of

a circle to the outside.
The radius of the circle is half
the diameter of the circle.
The plural of radius is radii

Radius equation:

Radius 5
Parts of a circle

The diameter of a circle is a

line that passes through the
center and meets the
circumference at opposite ends.
It is twice as long as the radius
of the circle.

Diameter equation:

The circumference of a circle is

the perimeter of the circle. It is
the total length of the boundary
of the circle.

Circumference equation:

The arc length is defined as the

interspace between the two
points along a section of a
curve. An arc of a circle is any
part of the circumference.

Arc equation: θ/360 of 2πr

A tangent of a circle is defined

as a straight line that touches or
intersects the circle at only one
point.

The chord of a circle is defined

as the line segment joining any
two points on the
circumference of the circle. It
should be noted that the
diameter is the longest chord of
a circle that passes through the
center of the circle.
Chord equation: 2 × √(r2 − d2)

Parts of a circle

A sector of a circle is a pie-

shaped part of a circle made of
the arc along with its two radii.
A portion of the circumference
(also known as an arc) of the
circle and 2 radii of the circle
meet at both endpoints of the
arc formed a sector.
Area of Sector equation: A = (θ × r2 )/2

Parts of a circle

A segment of a circle is the

region that is bounded by an
arc and a chord of the circle.
When something is divided
into parts, each part is referred
to as a segment. In the same
way, a segment is a part of the
circle.
•Area of segment equation: A = (½) × r2 (θ – Sin
θ)
