Argument The rising inflation rate in the Philippines poses significant challenges to
the economy and the well-being of its citizens. Inflation erodes the
purchasing power of consumers, leading to higher costs of living and
financial strain on households. Without prompt intervention, inflation
could exacerbate poverty and hinder economic growth.

Evidences According to recent reports from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA),
the country's inflation rate has surged to multi-year highs, driven by factors
such as supply chain disruptions, rising commodity prices, and the
depreciation of the Philippine peso. The high inflation rate has particularly
affected low-income families who are struggling to afford basic necessities
such as food, transportation, and utilities.
Counterargument Some may argue that inflation is a natural consequence of economic growth and
market forces, and that government intervention could potentially worsen the
situation. They may also point out that implementing policies to curb inflation could
have adverse effects on employment and investment.

Rebuttal While inflation is indeed influenced by various economic factors, unchecked inflation can
have detrimental effects on the economy and society. Government intervention is
necessary to stabilize prices, protect consumers, and maintain macroeconomic stability.
Implementing targeted policies such as price controls, subsidies for essential goods, and
monetary measures can help alleviate the burden of inflation on vulnerable populations
while safeguarding economic stability in the long run.

Conclusion Therefore, addressing the rising inflation rate in the Philippines requires proactive and
coordinated efforts from the government, private sector, and civil society. By
implementing effective policies and strategies, we can mitigate the adverse effects of
inflation, protect the welfare of citizens, and foster sustainable economic development.
It is imperative that policymakers prioritize measures to combat inflation and ensure
inclusive growth for all sectors of society

UNLOCKING OF DIFFICULTIES

Is social media bad for kids?
While social media offers opportunities for connectivity and self-
expression, its pervasive influence can have detrimental effects on
children's mental health, social development, and overall well-being.
Numerous studies have documented the negative effects of
excessive social media use on children. For example, research
conducted by Twenge et al. (2018) found a significant correlation
between increased social media usage and elevated rates of
depression and anxiety among adolescents. Furthermore,
longitudinal studies by Primack et al. (2017) have demonstrated a
link between heavy social media consumption and decreased life
satisfaction among young people.
Proponents of social media often argue that it fosters
social connections and provides a platform for self-
expression and creativity. While these benefits are
undeniable, they must be weighed against the potential
risks. Critics contend that social media exacerbates feelings
of loneliness and inadequacy, as children compare their lives
to carefully curated portrayals on platforms like Instagram
and Snapchat. Additionally, the constant barrage of
notifications and likes can create a dopamine-driven
feedback loop, leading to addictive behaviors and decreased
productivity.
Moreover, the anonymity afforded by social media can
facilitate cyberbullying and online harassment, which can
have devastating consequences for children's mental
health. According to a survey conducted by the
Cyberbullying Research Center (2020), over 36% of
adolescents report experiencing cyberbullying at some
point, with detrimental effects on their self-esteem and
psychological well-being.
In conclusion, while social media has its merits, its
negative impacts on children's mental health and social
development cannot be ignored. As parents, educators, and
policymakers, it is imperative to implement strategies that
promote responsible social media usage and mitigate the
harmful effects on our youth. By fostering digital literacy
skills and promoting healthy online behaviors, we can
empower children to navigate the complexities of the digital
landscape and harness the potential of social media in a safe
and constructive manner.

Introduction
of the Lesson
Argumentative
Writing
Techniques
ARGUMENTATIVE WRITING
Argumentative writing is a type of writing wherein the writer
aims at presenting an issue (be it scientific, political, social, etc.)
and then taking side or making a stand, which he will have to
support by giving proof or evidence. This task requires that the
writer read about the topic and research about evidence (e.g.,
statistics, statement of experts, legal documents).Argumentative
texts adopt a fair, formal and reasonable tone; hence, emotive
appeal do not play a significant role here. In terms of structure,
argumentative essays should have a straightforward structure so
they are easy for readers to follow.
WHAT ARE THE ARGUMENTATIVE WRITING
TECHNIQUES
1.Crafting a clear thesis statement - a statement that involves
articulating a concise and focused thesis or main argument. This
statement serves as the foundation for the entire piece of writing,
guiding the reader on what to expect and providing a central point
of reference. A clear statement helps maintain coherence and
ensures that the writer's main point is effectively communicated to
the audience.
Example: "The government should implement stricter regulations
on plastic usage to combat environmental pollution, as evidenced
by the alarming increase in ocean plastic levels and their
detrimental impact on marine life."
WHAT ARE THE ARGUMENTATIVE WRITING
TECHNIQUES
2.Using evidence effectively - entails supporting arguments with
relevant and credible information, such as statistics, research
findings, expert opinions, and real-world examples. Evidence adds
credibility to the writer's claims and enhances the persuasiveness
of the argument.
Example: "Research studies consistently show that students who
engage in regular physical activity demonstrate improved academic
performance. For instance, a study published in the Journal of
Educational Psychology found a direct correlation between physical
exercise and enhanced cognitive function."
WHAT ARE THE ARGUMENTATIVE WRITING
TECHNIQUES
3.Addressing and refuting counterarguments - It involves
anticipating and acknowledging opposing viewpoints or objections
to the writer's argument. It also involves presenting compelling
rebuttals supported by evidence and logical reasoning, thereby
strengthening the writer's position and further persuading the
audience of the validity of their argument.
Example: "While some argue that social media platforms foster
connection among people, it cannot be overlooked that excessive
use contributes to a decline in face-to-face interactions. However,
proponents of social media fail to consider the positive role it plays
in disseminating information and fostering global awareness."
WHAT ARE THE ARGUMENTATIVE WRITING
TECHNIQUES
4.Utilizing logical connectors for coherence and organization - It
involves employing transitional phrases, logical transitions, and
organizational structures to ensure coherence and clarity in the writing.
Logical connectors help establish relationships between ideas, guide the
reader through the argumentative process, and create a smooth flow of
thought.
Example: "Moreover, implementing renewable energy sources not only
reduces carbon emissions but also creates job opportunities.
Additionally, investing in sustainable practices ensures a healthier planet
for future generations. In conclusion, the transition to renewable energy
is not only an environmental necessity but also an economic
opportunity."
