CHAPTER ONE

Introduction to Emerging Technologies

(EMT)

1
INTRODUCTION

• There are different definition of ET in different areas, such as media,

business, science, or education.

• ET is defined as technologies that are currently developing, or expected

to be available, that can create social and economical effects.

• ET is a technology based on new ideas that are in development and

testing.

• Testing is used to determine if the products give the intended results. If

so, the product can be mass produced. 2
3
TECHNOLOGICAL CONVERGENCE

• Technological convergence is the interlinking of:-

 Computing,
 Information technologies,
 Media content, and
 Communication networks.
• Technology convergence is when different forms of
technologies exist together in a single device, sharing resources
and interacting, creating new technology and convenience.
E.g mobile phone(contain camera, player, telephone, calculator…etc.)

• It arisen because of popularization of internet. 4

TECHNOLOGY

• 1610s, The word technology comes from Greek word “techno-logía“

and “techne” means art, skill or craft and “logía” means study of.

• Technology defined as the use or application of knowledge to turn

resource into goods and service that solve problem.

5
LIST OF SOME CURRENTLY AVAILABLE
EMERGED TECHNOLOGIES

• Artificial Intelligence • DevOps(Development &

• Block chain Operation)
• Augmented Reality and • Internet of Things (IoT)
Virtual Reality • Intelligent Apps (I-Apps)
• Cloud Computing • Big Data
• Angular and React • Robotic Processor Automation
(RPA)
6
I N T R O D U C T I O N TO T H E I N D U S T R I A L R E VO L U T I O N ( I R )

• Industrial revolution is defined as the changes in manufacturing and transportation.

• It is a change that began fewer things being made by hand but instead made using
machines in larger-scale factories.

• The new production technologies fundamentally changed the working conditions

and lifestyles of people.

• 1700s and early 1800s, started in England , with a series of innovations to make
labor more efficient and productive

7
I N T R O D U CT I O N TO T H E I N DU S T R I A L R E VO L U T I O N
(IR)

• The following revolution are fundamentally changed the world around us into
modern society:-
The steam engine

The age of science and mass production

The rise of digital technology , and

Smart and autonomous systems fueled by data and machine learning.

8
THE MOST IMPORTANT INVENTIONS OF THE
INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION

• Transportation: The Steam Engine, Railroad, Diesel Engine, Airplane

• Communication.: The Telegraph, Transatlantic Cable, Phonograph. The

Telephone.

• Industry: The Cotton Gin. The Sewing Machine. Electric Lights.

9
THE FOUR TYPES OF INDUSTRIES ARE:

The primary industry involves getting raw

materials e.g. mining, farming, and fishing.

The secondary industry involves

manufacturing e.g. making cars and
steel.
Tertiary industries provide a service
e.g. teaching and nursing.

The quaternary industry involves

research and development industries
e.g. IT. 10
INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION (IR 1.0, IR 2.0, IR 3.0, IR 4.0)

11
ROLE OF DATA FOR EMERGING
TECHNOLOGIES

• Data, in today’s business and technology world, is vital.

• Data is regarded as the new oil and strategic asset since we are living in the age of
big data.

• It drives to determines the future of science, technology, economy.

• Scientific methods is based on data

• The world is full of data.

• Every action that you do, speak, walk and study is data.

• So, data acts as an input and in this world, whatever systems exist, it will take data
12
as an input.
ENABLING DEVICES AND NETWORK
(PROGRAMMABLE DEVICES)
• In the world of digital electronic systems, there are four basic kinds of devices
Memory: store information
Microprocessors: Execute software instructions to perform a wide variety of tasks.
• E.g Game, word process, playing music …..etc..
logic: provide specific functions, including:-
Device-to-device interfacing,
Data communication,
Signal processing,
Data display, and
Timing and control operations,
 Networks: collection of computers, servers, network devices, peripherals, or other
devices connected to one another to allow the sharing of data.
13
HUMAN TO MACHINE INTERACTION

• Human-machine interaction (HMI) : refers to the communication and

interaction between a human and
• a machine via a user interface.
• HCI (human-computer interaction): The study of how people interact with
computers.
• In what extent computers are or are not developed for successful interaction with
human beings.

• How do users interact with computers?: The user interacts directly with hardware,
e.g through a graphical user interface.
• The user interacts with the computer over this software interface using the given
input and output (I/O) hardware. 14
H U M A N TO M A C H I N E I N T E R A C T I O N

• How important is human-computer interaction?

• Improve the interaction between users and computers by making computers
more user-friendly and receptive to the user's needs.

• Advantages
• Simplicity, ease of deployment & operations, reduce solution design time and
integration complexity and cost savings for smaller set-ups.

15
DISCIPLINES CONTRIBUTING TO HUMAN-COMPUTER INTERACTION (HCI)

• Cognitive psychology: Limitations, information processing, performance

prediction, cooperative working, and capabilities
• Computer science: graphics, technology, prototyping tools, user interface
management systems.
• Linguistics.
• Engineering and design.
• Human factors
• Artificial intelligence.

16
5. FUTURE TRENDS IN EMERGING
TECHNOLOGIES

• Emerging technology • Augmented Analytics

trends in 2019 • Digital Twins(virtualization)
• 5G Networks
• Enhanced Edge Computing and
• Artificial Intelligence (AI)
• Immersive Experiences in Smart
• Autonomous Devices
Spaces
• Block chain

17
ET THAT WILL SHAPE THE FUTURE

• Some emerging technologies that will shape the future of you and
your business
• Augmented Reality,
• Virtual Reality,
• Internet Of Things,
• Blockchain,
• Artificial Intelligence,
• Chabot’s,
• Ephemeral Apps and

• These technologies are already shaping our life whether we like it or not
