• Industrial training is a vital part of a hospitality student’s life .It prepares a cocoon to evolve into a
butterfly in the real world. The 6 months to a yearlong experience in hotels sharpen the technical skills
absorbed from college. Industrial training is a procedure to help
• Hotel management student get practical knowledge and develop as hospitality professional.
• Probably the most important reason in Hotel Management as to why every student should go through
the grind of industrial training. One can test waters and practice theoretical knowledge into practical
skills.
2. Learn professionalism (for the first time):
No number of presentations and role plays can prepare a student for hospitality professional life. It is
only during the training the student gets exposed to the nuances of professionalism and understands its
importance.
Students are taught about one topic at a time, but the hotels teach them to play myriad roles at a time.
Trouble shooting, problem solving, and multitasking are skills that students imbibe while working in
various departments like Front Office, Housekeeping, Food Production and Food &
Beverage Service.
The real update on the latest trends, technical advances and development takes place for a student
when he is in the middle of it all. The controlled laboratory atmosphere of a college can never
surpasses the real experience in the hotel. Also students can now get fancy going to other countries like
USA, France, Malaysia, etc for your Industrial training and obtain global exposure before you even
complete your Hospitality degree.
5. Interact with guests, become responsible and accountable:
The hitch of speaking to strangers must take a backseat as there is no escape from guest
interaction during IT. The confidence that the students gain is very valuable which stays with
them during there entire professional life. They learn to become responsible for their actions.
The key competencies to be successful as a hotel management professional get evolved during
training. The attitude “to serve with smile” finds a suitable turf in hotels which should be
nurtured.
Hotels become meeting ground for relationships that sustain for a lifetime. Students being given
preference in the selection process during final placement based on good work done during IT
is not uncommon in the industry. The HODs and Managers always appreciate and remember a
zealous, proactive and hardworking trainee.
8. Create Some Memorable Life Experience:
The experience of internship creates a kaleidoscope of memories for trainees. The incidences that
leave a mark on a young intern’s mind may range from very bad to excellent but successful are
those who learn something from each experience and treat every new challenge in a positive way.
Any student who accords due importance to Industrial Training, stays focused and enjoys the
process will be benefitted within surmountable exposure and experience. Most of the hotel
organizations today can provide effective working career-oriented training. Its importance should
be particularly
understood for those starting out in the industry, because wasted effort costs valuable time in
careers. You can be a manager at 25 with well targeted management training program or at 45
when you join at entry level.

Introduction
DoubleTree by Hilton is an American hotel chain managed by
Hilton Worldwide. DoubleTree has been the fastest growing Hilton brand by
number of properties since 2007, and by number of rooms from 2007 to
2015. As of December 31, 2019, it has 587 properties with 135,745 rooms in
47 countries and territories, including 122 that are managed with 35,122
rooms.
DoubleTree competes in the full service category, alongside sister chain
Hilton Hotels & Resorts. Among the many signature things that DoubleTree is
known for are their chocolate chip cookies, which were originally made in the
early 1980s for VIPs but now given to all guests and made by Nashville-based
Christie Cookie Company for over 30 years. In 2020, during the
COVID-19 pandemic the brand published a home-adapted recipe for their
cookies.
History
The first DoubleTree hotel opened in Scottsdale, Arizona, in 1969.[13] It was located on the
grounds of Scottsdale Fashion Square and was built by Sam Kitchell.[2] The DoubleTree Hotels
Corporation merged with the Guest Quarters Hotels Partnership of Boston in December 1993. [14]
The acquired hotels were rebranded under the DoubleTree name. The Doubletree Corporation
later merged with the Promus Hotel Corporation in December 1997, bringing together the
DoubleTree, Red Lion, Hampton Inn, and Embassy Suites brands.[15] In December 1999, Hilton
Hotels Corporation acquired Promus Hotel Corporation, which brought Doubletree Hotels and
other Promus hotel brands under the umbrella of the newly renamed Hilton Worldwide. [16] In early
2011, Hilton Worldwide launched a logo and name rebranding for the chain, replacing the name
"DoubleTree" with "DoubleTree by Hilton".[17]
DoubleTree's strategy to grow the brand has been to
convince operators of other brands to switch flags. This is in
contrast to brands like Marriott or Sheraton which rely on
new construction to grow their footprint. DoubleTree also
provides lower cost options to improve properties, which
help operators remain in the brand system.[18]
On November 2, 2019, DoubleTree Cookie became the first
cookie baked in space as ISS Commander Luca Parmitano
of the European Space Agency baked the brand's cookie
dough inside the prototype oven.
