COURSE CODE: MEEN- 4102
TOPIC: : PROJECT MANAGEMENT METHODOLOGY
PRESENTATION OUTLINE:

 Purpose of Presentation?
 What is project?
 What is Project Management? And its importance.
 What is Project Management Methodology?
 Why we need it?
 Some Project Management Methodologies?
 Conclusion
OBJECTIVE

 In this presentation, we will explore the Waterfall Project

Management Methodology, a traditional and widely used approach
to managing projects. We will discuss the key phases of the
Waterfall methodology, its strengths and weaknesses, and best
practices for its implementation.
Purpose of Presentation:

 The purpose of the presentation is to educate the audience about the

fundamental principles and importance of project management,
highlighting its role in achieving organizational objectives and
providing an overview of key components and benefits, ultimately
encouraging the adoption of effective project management
practices.
What is Project?

 A project is a time-bound and purposeful effort that brings

together people, resources, and tasks to achieve a distinct and one-
of-a-kind outcome or deliverable.
Project Management:

 It involves a structured approach to initiating,

planning, executing and closing projects to ensure
they are completed on time, within budget, and to the
satisfaction of stakeholders.
What is Project Management Methodology:

 Project management methodology is a structured approach that

guides how projects are planned, executed, and controlled to
achieve successful outcomes, offering a clear path for project
teams to follow.
Example For Project Management
Methodology:

 A project management methodology in mechanical engineering is a

structured guide, similar to an assembly manual, ensuring every
part is assembled correctly and every step is completed in the
precise order to build a functional machine.
Some Project Management Methodologies:

 Waterfall: A linear and sequential approach where each phase

must be completed before moving to the next. It's suitable for well-
defined projects with stable requirements.
Some Project Management Methodologies:

 EXAMPLE:
Manufacturing projects are another example of a waterfall
project. These types of projects typically involve the production of
physical goods, such as cars, appliances, or electronics. The phases
of a manufacturing project typically include planning, design,
production, and delivery.
 Online ticket system by agency
Some Project Management Methodologies:

 What is it?
• Traditional, sequential project management approach.
• Phases: Requirements, System
Design, Implementation, Testing, Deployment, & Maintenance.
• Each phase completed before moving on.
Some Project Management Methodologies:

 Strengths:
• Clear phases, easy tracking.
• Good for defined requirements.
• Encourages upfront planning.
• Reduces risk of rework.
Some Project Management Methadologies

 Weaknesses:
• Inflexible, not adaptable to change.
• Slow & time-consuming.
• Limited feedback opportunities.
• High risk if requirements are unclear.
Some Project Management Methadologies

 Best suited for:

• Well-defined, predictable projects.
• Low risk of change.
• Clear requirements.
The Phases of Waterfall Project Management

 Phase 1: Requirements
• Define project goals and objectives
• Identify stakeholders and their needs
• Gather and analyze requirements
• Create a project scope document
• If requirements changes then there is an issue to change every
step
• Requirement change process is time consuming
The Phases of Waterfall Project Management

 Phase 2: System Design

• After fulfilling the requirements of stakeholders
• Design the system architecture
• Identify and define technical specifications
• Develop a detailed project plan,map requirements
 Phase 3: Implementation
• Develop and code the system(construct project)
• Create and test system components
• Integrate system components
The Phases of Waterfall Project Management

 Phase 4: Testing(verifying)
• Conduct thorough testing of the system
• Verify that project meet all requirement
• Identify and fix bugs and errors, chances of redesigning
• Verify that the system meets requirements
 Phase 5: Deployment
 Release the system to production,
 Train users on the new system,
 Provide ongoing support and maintenance
The Phases of Waterfall Project Management

 Phase 6: Maintenance(maximum time consuming)

 Address any issues that arise after deployment
 Implement new features and enhancements
 Monitor system performance
 Fixations of errors, small size modifications

“THERE PHASES DON’T OVERLAP WITH EACH OTHER.”

Some Project Management Mathadologies:

 Alternatives:
• Agile: Iterative, adaptable, better for changing requirements.
• Hybrid: Mix of Waterfall & Agile approaches.
 Remember:
• Choose the methodology that best fits your project and team.
• Be flexible and willing to adapt as needed.
Some Project Management Mathadologies

1. What is agile project managment?

2. Why agile project management?
3. Principles of agile project management?
4. Steps in agile project management?
5. Agile project management frameworks?
Some Project Management Mathadologies:

 What is agile project management?

Agile project management ia a way by which a project can be
managed by breaking it into a several stages or sprints.
Agile methodology allows teams to release segmens of the project,
that are completed .
Some Project Management Mathadologies:

 Why agile project management?

Agile project management has been adopted by several types of
industries , such as software companies ,product development,
marketing compaign and even in construction companies.
Some Project Management Mathadologies:

 Some reasons that encourage industries to take up the agile

methodology:
1. High product quality
2. High customer satisfaction
3. Reduced risk
4. Better and faster ROI
Some Project Management Mathadologies:

 Principles of agile PM
Principle for successful agile project management
1. Customer is satisfied because of fast and continuous delivery
2. Shortening the time period between planning and delivery, increase
the effectiveness of the work
3. The management and developers work together for better
understanding and productive work
4. Accepting stakeholders changes , even late in the development phase
Some Project Management Mathadologies:

 Steps in agile project management

Agile project management is adopted to shorten the development
cycel and increase the frequency of project releases.
Some Project Management Mathadologies:

The 6 steps in agile PM:

 Project planning
 Roadmap creation
 Release planning
 Sprint planning
 Daily meetings
 Sprint review
Some Project Management Mathadologies:

 Agile project management frameworks

Agile PM frameworks involve continuous planning and testing. There
are different framework each of them having their own unique
qualities.
Some Project Management Mathadologies:

The most popular agile frameworks are:

 Kanban framework
 Scrum framework
 Hybrid framework
 Lean framework
Conclusion:

 In conclusion, project management methodologies provide a

structured and efficient approach to achieving project success.
Whether through traditional methodologies like Waterfall or more
flexible ones like Agile, they offer a clear path to manage projects
effectively. These methodologies reduce risks, encourage
collaboration, and enhance overall project performance, ensuring
that organizations can consistently deliver successful outcomes.
