Global Sale of EV
Electric vehicles are powered by electric motors
and contain a battery pack. Governments around
the world are implementing policies to promote
electric vehicles to reduce dependence on oil,
decrease greenhouse gas emissions, and improve
air quality.

According to the IEA’s annual Global Electric Vehicle Outlook,

In 2022 10 million electric cars were sold

In 2023 to reach 14 million were expected


China is the world's largest EV market with 5.9 million
units sold in 2022,
EV Evolution in Myanmar
• In early 2022, Khaingkhaing Sangda in Myanmar
produced and sold its first model of pure electric
vehicles’ The cars are being jointly produced by
China’s Yue Di and the Khaing Khaing Sangda
Motorcar factory for Myanmar.

• In June 2022, a national-level leading committee


on the development of electric vehicles.
EV Evolution in Myanmar
• On 11st November 2022, Myanmar’s Ministry of
Commerce (MOC) announced a pilot period for
importing electric vehicles into Myanmar, which came
into force with MOC Order No. 62/2022, issued under
the Import and Export Law.
• The government has also waived the tax on the import
of EVs and parts for charging stations for the 2022-23
fiscal year. There are also reports that the tax will be
exempted until the end of the 2024-25 fiscal year.
EV Evolution in Myanmar
• In January 2022, first batch of Chinese-made battery
electric vehicles (BEVs) as part of its one-year pilot
EV project. Two companies imported.
• In March 2023, EV charging stations were firstly
implemented at four locations in Nay Pyi Taw Council
Territory, five locations in Yangon city, five locations
in Mandalay city and another five on Yangon-
Mandalay Highway totaling 19 under pilot projects.

• Under the pilot project, 10 of the imported Chinese
BYD e2 cars will run as electric taxis in the
commercial city of Yangon and another 10 vehicles
will run as taxis in the capital city of Nay Pyi Daw.
