You have 5 minutes.
Q4- Key things to remember

The question is worth 20 marks and you
should allocate 25 minutes to answer it.

You should therefore treat it as if it is a
mini-essay and write 6-8 paragraphs,
however: Remember it isn’t about the
Quantity of your writing but the
Quality!
How will the question be structured?

The question will ask you to focus on a
particular part of the text. Usually the end.

For example it might say “Focus this part Remember the bullet points
of your answer on the second part of the Are only reminding you to use
source from lines 19 to the end.” PQA writing. Not telling you what
To include.

You will then receive a statement from a
reader – or a student- giving an opinion on
the text. You’ll be asked to respond to it:
“to what extent do you agree?”
So what is the question asking?

You need to respond to the statement and give both sides of the
argument as it is an evaluation question.

You must discuss the narrative voice and contrasts and conflicts
– all fiction texts use these.
What am I being marked on?

You are being marked on these 4 things:
 your use of references,
 your exploration of the writer’s methods,
 your response to the statement
 your comments on the effects achieved by the writer
When answering the question I should...

Use a PQA or PEEL format

Include an additional “Linking to the statement”
comment at the end of each PQA paragraph you do.

Write for 25 minutes and include about 6-8 paragraphs.

Make sure you use language like, “Although, Perhaps,
However” in order to show you are discussing different
points of view ( or different sides to the argument).
