Parts;
Engine block- engine`s main body where all its vital parts
(crankshaft, camshaft, valves) are being placed inside.
1. Intake Stroke
• The piston moves from TDC to BDC (down)
• The intake valve is open
• The exhaust valve is closed
• The piston creates a suction (vacuum) and air and fuel are sucked into the
cylinder
Intake Stroke
2. Compression Stroke
COMPRESSION STROKE
3. POWER STROKE
• The piston moves from TDC to BDC (down)
• Both valves are closed
• The spark plug fires
• The fuel mixture burns rapidly. This expanding heated mixture forces the piston down
POWER STROKE
4. EXHAUST STROKE
• Piston moves from BDC to TDC (up)
• The intake valve is closed
• The exhaust valve is open
• The piston pushes the exhaust out
Valve spring- Lift the weight of the valve (intake and
exhaust) during the stroke cycles with the right timing with
the camshaft
Oil pump- transfer and circulates oil necessary for the engine lubrication of
its mechanical parts under pressure from oil pan through the oil galleries
to the engine.
Oil pan- where the engine oil stored and acts as the oil reservoir and
cooling area, found underneath the engine.
Oil filter- gets rid and filter oil contaminants and particles as it
circulates throughout the engine, keeping the engine clean in the
inside.
Thermostat- control`s the coolant going inside radiator, thereby keeping the
engine constant working temperature within optimum range.
Radiator- serves as the cooling are of the hot coolant coming from the
engine and with the flowing air going in the engine, cools down the coolant
before going back to the engine for cooling.
Starter- cranks the engine to the strart its operation as it then effectively
starts the car with the ignition switch.
Intake manifold- moves and distribute clean air necessary for the
combustion mixture in the cylinder from the outside to the engine.
Throttle body- can controls the amount of clean air that will get into
the engine.
Oil dipstick- metal stick used to measure the oil level deposited in
the oil pan.
Fuel injector- injects and spray atomized fuel to the premixed air
fuel mixture in the cylinder.
Exhaust manifold- collect the waste gasses from the combustion chambers
through exhaust gasses to the vehicle emission system.
Air filter- remove and filter contaminants and particles from the air
as it enters the engine and combustion chambers, keeping the
engine clean from the outside.
Fuel filter- removes an filter contaminants and particles from fuel
as it enters combustion chambers.
5. __________ it is lift the weight of the valve (intake and exhaust) during the stroke cycles with the right
timing with the camshaft.
6. __________ servers as the cooling are of the hot coolant coming from the engine and with the flowing air
going in the engine.
10. ___________ is the main actors of the four stroke cycle that transfer the explosive force of the burned
expanded gases inside the cylinder to the crankshaft via connecting rod with its up and down motion.
