Effect + Signal words + Cause Because of Because of (adv) digolongkan sebagai preposition yang mana bisa dimaknai sebagai kata penghubung, hanya diikuti oleh kata benda dan bukan klausa (kalimat). Contoh : • I didn’t go to work yesterday (effect) because of an illness (cause). • He always get punished (effect) because of his waking up late habits (cause). • Because of my mom (cause), I can be strong (effect). Due to / caused by Due to (adj) merupakan preposition yang menyiratkan makna “hasil dari”. Atau singkatnya menjelaskan penyebab, baik itu positif atau negatif. Contoh: • Due to John’s laziness (cause), he did not pass the English test (effect). • Due to my hard work (cause), my success is achieved (effect). • I need to stay at school (effect) due to heavy rain (cause). Thanks to Thanks to memiliki arti berkat. Thanks to digunakan menyatakan sesuatu yang positif kepada seseorang. Lebih simple nya, ungkapan ini merupakan ungkapan rasa syukur atas sesuatu yang disebabkan oleh seseorang ataupun disebabkan oleh kondisi yang baik. Tetapi bisa juga digunakan untuk makna yang sarkastic. Contoh: • Thanks to regular exercise and a healthy diet (cause), she lost weight (effect). • My mom won’t let me join the party (cause), thanks to you (effect). • Thanks to your help (cause), we were successful (effect).
