INTRODUCTION
• Crash fatalities caused due to irresponsible driving due to consumption of of alcohol is a critical factor that account for
approximately about 2.2 percent of the overall crash incidents and the unpleasant scenario of fatalities as a result, on urban
roads as well as highways, arterials and freeways, only statistically behind deaths due to over speeding and driving on the
wrong side,a ccording to the data published by MORTH, wherein also evident from various data sources is that the overall
crash fatalities account for about 9 percent of total fatalities in the globe raising an ever-growing concern to effectively address
the issue.
• In this proposed research, the solution to the issue of detection of evidence of consumption of alcohol is taken up. The
research initially emphasizes on the module of detection for feasible counter measures to be undertaken and policing to be laid
down that are not only stringent but efficient in reducing the number of cases, and later on extrapolate on the already existing
technologies that are mostly sensor based.
• This research is to be undertaken as a part of the curriculum for the course of M.S.RESEARCH at the department of TRIPC at
IIT,DELHI.
OBJECTIVES

• Precise detection of presence of alcohol by aid of the breadth non invasive

gas MQ3 sensor.

• Set up an appropriate communication module, preferably wireless, to send an

alert signal to either a passing by or to the nearest control room. The above
mentioned project can be made more lucrative by adding a unique
identification chip in the vehicle to detect the identity of the driver or vehicle.
METHODOLOGY

o Initially a gas sensor MQ3 is applied which detects any trace of alcohol or ethyl
alcohol to be accurate. The sensor works on the principle change in resistance
according to the chemical ejection or absorption of electrons. Hence, according to the
Ohms law because of the resistance change current in the circuit changes too.
Therefore, this causes lcd to display the evidence of alcohol.
o Now, the particular project can extend it’s outreach with enhanced features like
interfacing the output to smartphone present at control room and recognition of the
vehicle’s ID. The latter is done by rfid module interfaced to the module of the sensor.
LOOPHOLES IN EXISTING LITERATURE

• Any paper or research to published till present is limited to the detection of

the evidence of alcohol. However, the objective can be extrapolated to the
point where more pro-active accident prevention method might be employed
which causes the need for attenuating response time .
• It is achieved by the increased response speed and reduced time to act on any
probability of incumbent cases. The speed of sensor and transmitting the
information to the control stop can be critical with the respect.

CONCLUSIONS

• The recommended project can be of immense help with respect to the

reduction of crash fatalities because of drink and drive cases by proactive
detection and stringent policing to aid in preventing occurrence of the same.
• It will also help concerned action with regard to the banning and regulation
of vehicles that are repeated offenders.
