Angle Side Angle (ASA)

Angle Side Angle (ASA) Congruence
Postulate
• If the two angles and the included side of one triangle are congruent
to the corresponding two angles and an included side of another
triangle, then the triangles are congruent.

• Included side?
This refers to the side common to two angles of a triangle.
Included Side
Examples:
Congruent?
The term “congruent” means exactly equal shape and size. This shape
and size should remain equal, even when we flip, turn, or rotate the
shapes.

If the two angles and the included side of one triangle are
congruent to the corresponding two angles and an included
side of another triangle, then the triangles are congruent.

So, basically the statement above means that if two triangles have the
equal shape and size of its two angles and its included side, it means
that the two triangles are congruent.
Examples of Congruent triangles:

Examples of non-congruent triangles:

Angle Side Angle (ASA)
Example 1:
They are Congruent!

Parts of the triangle that are congruent by

using the ASA Rule:

Angle (A) - ∠C ≅ ∠R
Side (S) - CB ≅ RQ Thus, △ABC ≅ △QRP
Angle (A) - ∠B ≅ ∠Q
Example 2: Parts of the triangle that are congruent by
using the ASA Rule:
Angle (A) - ∠B ≅ ∠E
Side (S) - BC ≅ EF Thus, △ABC ≅ △DEF
Angle (A) - ∠C ≅ ∠F

These triangles are

Congruent!
Example 3: Parts of the triangle that are congruent
G by using the ASA Rule:
K V
Angle (A) ∠KMG ≅ ∠VMG
Side (S) GM ≅ GM by Reflexive Property
Angle (A) ∠MGK ≅ ∠VGM

Thus, △MGV ≅ △MGK

These triangles are also
