What does an anchor do?
• Anchors transfer the loads into the base material (e.g. columns)
• The loads can be constant (static: e.g. proper weight and dead loads) or
can vary (dynamic: e.g. machines and ventilators) during lifetime

What is a chemical anchor?
Combination of mortar and element (threaded rod or rebar)
Advantages:
• Big load range and excellent load
performance
• Fixations to a big variety of base material
(injection)
• Possibility for small edge distances and
anchor spacing
• Great flexibility: big variety of elements,
sizes, corrosion protection etc

Glass capsule

Benefits: Benefits:
- Individual adaptation of amount of - Pre-portioned, no remnants
mortar to in-situ reality - Better performance
- Great flexibility - Not so sensitive (foil capsules only)

Rebar….Simply
Connected

www.hilti.com Simply Connected -2011

What is the meaning of Rebaring?

Rebaring is mainly using steel bars in

concrete work, where they post installed bars
in different diameters and embedment depths.

Post-installed rebars are usually used for

concrete to concrete connections,
connecting a new concrete structure to
an existing concrete structure.

Major application opportunities are in

renovation projects and new buildings.

What is a rebar? What is an anchor?

• Rebar is connecting two concrete • Steel element to concrete connection

elements by means of reinforcing
bars
• • Elements with the shortest possible

• Edge and spacing distances are
• with relatively large spacing and edge

distance

• • Depend on the tension of concrete and

• The designer is analyzing the • Normally the loads are relatively small
structural load flow and the global compared with other loads on the
equilibrium structure and do not influence the
design of the structure

Passive Fire Protection
Firestop System

www.hilti.com 32 Sales Planning Process 2011_PJD 32

Firestop System:
a specific construction consisting of fire-rated
wall or floor assembly, a penetrating item or
items passing through an opining in the
assembly, and the materials designed to help
prevent the spread of fire through the
openings

www.hilti.com Sales Planning Process 2011_PJD 33

Passive Protection Measures

• Passive Measures are fixed building elements , they contain the fire and
absorb its energy by their inherent properties (for a specified time period).

• Passive Measures do not require external energy sources.

• Passive Measures do not require regular maintenance by qualified

Engineers.

Passive Measures need routine inspections to ensure there

are no alterations caused by new installations.

www.hilti.com Sales Planning Process 2011_PJD 34

Passive Protection Measures

1- FIRE RESISTANT CONSTRUCTION ELEMENTS:

Walls, Floors, Ceilings, Columns, Beams, Partitions, Steelwork.

2- FIRE RESISTANT COMPARTMENTS

3- FIRE RESISTANT SERVICE ELEMENTS

Doors, Shutters, Windows, Dampers, Ductworks, …

4- THROUGH-PENETRATION FIRESTOP SYSTEMS

5- BUILDING JOINTS FIRE RESISTENCE SYSTEMS

6- FIRE RETARDANT COATINGS

7- SELECTION OF BUILDING MATERIALS

Goal of Fire Regulations

Individual House Public Building Industrial Building

Low High

Building / Firestop regulations:

 .. depend on the size of the construction
 .. are more stringent for public and industrial buildings.

www.hilti.com Sales Planning Process 2011_PJD 36

Compartmentation

Fire walls Fire floors

Fire rated walls and floors should have fire resistance rating

www.hilti.com Sales Planning Process 2011_PJD 37

Compartmentation

Fire compartments are necessary to:

 Contain smoke and fire
 Minimise or reduce the risk of loss of
occupants and property if a fire occurs
 Protect escape routes
 Aid in the attempt to extinguish a fire

Openings in fire-resistant walls and floors

represent risk areas:
 If a fire is to be contained within a designed
compartment, it is necessary to protect any
openings in the fire separating elements.
