Worship Leader
 To be an example to
lead the congregation in
worshipping the Lord
and to set their hearts
and mind to God during
Praise and Worship. To
prepare the hearts of
the people to receive
the Word of God.
What to do?
Before the event:
 Spend time in God’s
presence. (Give time for
prayer, Bible reading and devotion,
worship, and fellowship.)

 Know the importance

of your role to do your
part well. (Give time for self-
preparation, practice, and learning
the sequence of song parts)
During the event:
 Be presentable. (Wear
something that is presentable and
groom yourself accordingly.)
 Set aside your personal
distractions and focus on
worshipping Jesus. (Be sure
to focus in leading the congregation
to worship the Lord.)
 Encourage the people to
worship in the Spirit. (Tell
them to shout, dance, lift hands,
etc. whenever they are being led to
do so.)
After the event:
 Be sure to be an example in
conduct after leading the
Praise and Worship. (Sit
accordingly and listen attentively
during the preaching of God’s
word.)
 Be aware and conscious
after the preaching of the
Word as to where the song
for the altar call will come
in. (Lead the worship team what to
sing, when to sing, and when to
stop singing.)
What not to do? / Things to
avoid:
o Don’t lead without any
preparations. No practice, no
performance.
o Do not look depressed when
you come up the stage. Look
cheerful and lively.
o Don’t just sing the songs.
Internalize, personalize the songs
and sing prayerfully with
thanksgiving.
What not to do? / Things to
avoid:
o Don’t dress and appear
upfront inappropriately.
o Avoid doing unnecessary
movements/gestures during
performance.
o Do not overkill songs. Avoid
singing with too much dynamics and
tonal movements.
o Avoid closing your eyes for
too long. Maintain eye contact with
the congregation.
What not to do? / Things to
avoid:
o Do not cut or interrupt songs
just to rebuke the
congregation if the Praise
and Worship is not going as
you wanted it to be.
o Do not preach before, during,
and after leading the praise
and worship. It is not your job.
o Don’t be in a rush when
leading with the songs. Go
along as the Spirit leads.
Practical and technical advices:
• When making a line-up of
songs, do not just pick any
songs in random. (Consider the
theme, key, and tempo of songs)
• Choose songs that you are
familiar with. (Do not pick songs that
you are not familiar with the lyrics, pitch,
and tempo.)
• Prepare your song line-up
ahead of time and coordinate
well with the musicians. (Prepare
your line-up as early as soon as you are
assigned for such a date.)
Practical and technical
advices:
• Practice time is the best time
to make any changes to the
song line-up. (Do not make sudden
changes that are uncoordinated during
Praise and Worship.)
• Make hand signals early, clear,
and understandable. (Avoid
flashing hand signals and late signals.)
• During instrumentals you may
do an adlib to encourage the
people to dance, lift hands,
