one’s privacy, identity, and reputation.
Introduction
The internet provides many effective communication tools, including e-mail,
mailing lists, discussion groups, chat services, web conferencing, blogs, and
RSS feeds. In recent years, social networking sites such as Facebook and
Twitter have also joined the mix. These various tools allow you to
communicate one-to-one or one-to-many, depending on your
communication needs. They also enable communication locally between
people who know one another or world-wide with people who share
common interests.

Throughout the rest of this course, you will learn to apply these various
communication technologies by communicating online in a variety of
formats.
2. What is Online banking

What Is Online Banking?

Online banking allows a user to conduct financial transactions via the
Internet. Online banking is also known as Internet banking or web banking.

Online banking offers customers almost every service traditionally available

through a local branch including deposits, transfers, and online bill
payments. Virtually every banking institution has some form of online
banking, available both on desktop versions and through mobile apps.
Key Takeaways
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Online banking allows a user to conduct financial transactions via the
Internet.
Consumers aren't required to visit a bank branch in order to complete most
of their basic banking transactions.
A customer needs a device, an Internet connection, and a bank card to
register. Once registered, the consumer sets up a password to begin using
the service.
Understanding Online Banking
With online banking, consumers aren't required to visit a bank branch to
complete most of their basic banking transactions. They can do all of this at
their own convenience, wherever they want—at home, at work, or on the
go.Online banking requires a computer or other device, an Internet
connection, and a bank or debit card. In order to access the service, clients
need to register for their bank's online banking service. In order to register,
they need to create a password. Once that's done, they can use the service
to do all their banking.
3. Uses of Internet For Educvation
The Internet to enable sustainable development
The past thirty years have seen tremendous growth in the
capabilities and reach of information and communication
technologies (ICTs). The Internet, especially, has become a
critical enabler of social and economic change,
transforming how government, business, and citizens
interact and offering new ways of addressing
development challenges. It has also transformed
education by creating a new culture of learning and
accessing information.
4. Important of Internet Technology for Easy Life
Today, the internet has become unavoidable in our daily life.
Appropriate use of the internet makes our life easy, fast and simple.
The internet helps us with facts and figures, information and
knowledge for personal, social and economic development. There are
many uses of the internet, however, the use of the internet in our daily
life depends on individual requirements and goals. That is why we
have internet plans that suit those needs, whether that be Xfinity
internet plans for the home or business internet, each one has a part
to play
Internet for Research & Development
The Internet plays a pivotal role in research
and development as it is propelled through
internet research. The benefit of the
internet is enjoyed by small businessmen to
big universities.
5. Email
Introduction
Widespread access to the internet is now a common feature of the
workplace and it is important that both employers and employees have an
understanding of the benefits and the problems that such access can bring.
Any organisation should aim to gain the maximum value from the internet
and email, while remaining aware of the technical and commercial risks that
can arise if the technology is misused.
The main business uses of the internet and email are:
searching for information and data
sending and receiving information, notes, memos, documents and
messages
as a marketing tool, to promote an organisation or to facilitate e-commerce
as a recruitment tool
for web-based training.
Employee Access to the Internet
All employers should have an internet policy in place which defines which
employees have access to the internet as part of their work and clearly
explains the limitations of that access. The policy should also include details
of the action that will be taken against anyone who acts in breach of the
policy and this should be consistent with the organisation’s disciplinary
procedure.

In some organisations employee use of the internet is limited to access to

email only. Many organisations however adopt an approach that (implicitly
or explicitly) allows reasonable online access for personal as well as
business purposes. This approach, built largely on trust, may work to an
organisation’s advantage but managers need to manage and control
employees’ internet access in order to make sure that the benefit is not
being abused.
Appropriate and Inappropriate Use of the Internet
Introduction
Time spent online may not always be time well spent: it is not immediately
apparent whether someone browsing the web is working or not. An
employee may undertake focused and efficient searching for work-related
information or may covertly browse for acceptable non-work-related
information (eg sports results) or unacceptable non-work-related material
(eg pornography).

Monitoring Internet use is one way of finding out which websites are being
accessed regularly and from which computer. If monitoring is taking place,
this must be clearly communicated to all employees and should also be
stated in the organisation’s internet policy. The policy should also include
details of the action that will be taken against anyone misusing the internet.
The organisation’s disciplinary procedure should be amended to include a
consistently worded statement that misuse of the internet will be regarded
as misconduct and lead to disciplinary action.
In the absence of an internet policy it is still
possible to control web browsing. If an employee
is spending a disproportionate amount of time on
the internet, they may be disciplined for misusing
working time and/or failing to meet the
requirements of the job in the same way as any
other breach of their terms of employment.
6. Broad Casting
Introduction
There is a synergy between broadcasting and the Internet which may
well be a critical success factor for future growth. Clearly, the Internet
has been on a fast growth curve. As we look forward, a number of
questions come to mind regarding the future of the Internet as more
companies target the consumer market. How far will Internet-based
services penetrate into the consumer marketplace? What are the most
feasible ways to make Internet resources and services available to the
most people? How far can we expect people to change current
information and entertainment behaviors?
Even with all the speculation and initial success of the Internet and
online services generally, the main conduit into our lives for
electronically distributed information and entertainment will remain
radio and television broadcasting. In terms of hours of consumption
and universal availability, the broadcast infrastructure is the major
electronic pipeline for individuals. Broadcasting services are available
through various platforms--wired and wireless, mobile and fixed site.
The familiar form broadcasting now takes will undergo a
metamorphosis which will seamlessly integrate with other parts of the
information infrastructure to offer exciting new services. This can help
extend and enhance the current means for providing access to
Internet resources.
Broadcasting as we think of it today provides for the transport of
linear audio and video programming in real time. The basic premise of
the broadcasting model has not changed in more than 70 years. We
turn on our TVs and radios at particular moments in time to gain
access to one program at a time per channel with prescheduled start
and end times. We expect radio programming to be audio and
television programming to be video. Other than the ability to control
whether the receivers are on or off and frequency tuning, we have no
expectations of affecting what is presented to us on our speakers and
screens. Virtually all of the content offered by radio and TV stations
today is available only in this manner.
The move to multimedia broadcasting substantially changes this
premise. Multimedia broadcasting will develop in three ways. First,
even today's analog transmission technology supports the transport
of multiple data types. This means that more than the traditional real-
time, linear and pre-scheduled forms of audio and video
programming will be available. Second, while some of this data will be
related to the main channel programming (i.e., conventional radio and
television programming), other data wholly unrelated to conventional
programming will be transported. And third, broadcast applications
will interoperate with other nonbroadcast client-server applications.
Prospects for new and expanded market segments to be developed
by multimedia broadcast and Internet-related services are analyzed
here. An analysis of the convergence marketplace in term of the
enabling technology, policy, markets, and business missions is
presented. Models of how radio and television broadcasters can
organize around the opportunities enabled by the Internet are
considered. Examples of current and planned broadcaster activities
and services are presented. Finally, some thoughts on what it will take
to succeed are offered.
7. Internet ofAdvertising
Advances in Internet technology have evolved the business
world in a number of ways, including taking advertising
techniques to a new level. Savvy marketers leverage the
power of the Internet to reach their target markets in
innovative, personal ways that can achieve an impact
comparable to or more effective than traditional advertising
media. Although it has its drawbacks, there are a number of
distinct advantages of advertising on the Internet.
Cost Efficiency
Advertising on the Internet is much more cost-efficient than
using traditional mass market and niche media. Internet ads
can be viewed by millions of people while being displayed all
day and night, while television or radio ads generally last
less than two minutes and are shown a limited number of
times per day. Cooperative advertising arrangements such
as banner and link swaps can be completely free, allowing
you to reach large audiences with no expense.Using an ad-
placement service such as Google's AdWords can help you to
realize even more significant cost savings, since ads can be
placed on multiple outlets for a single, flat fee, rather than
paying each outlet individually.
Target Marketing
Market segmentation and target marketing are more
effective on the Internet than any other advertising medium.
Strategically placed Web advertisements can achieve 100-
percent relevant views. Consider, for example, an
advertisement for a new video game placed on a video
game-oriented website. Virtually every visitor to the website
will be a video game enthusiast, maximizing the impact of
the advertising exposure.
Interactivity and Feedback
The Internet facilitates true two-way communication in
advertising messages. By placing interactive ads on the
Internet, marketers can use surveys, comments and usage
statistics to fine-tune their campaigns midstream and
maximize their effectiveness. Linking online advertisements
to social networking outlets can enhance the
communication between your company and your customers
even further, allowing you to receive genuine feedback on a
consistent basis.
Captive Audience
Digital Video Recorders (DVR) make it easy for
television viewers to skip advertisements,
dramatically reducing the impact of this traditional
medium. Advances in satellite and Internet radio,
as well as personal music players, have
diminished the reach of radio audiences by
offering listeners a wider range of options.
8. Internet of Navigation
NAVIGATING THE INTERNET
STAY SECURE ONLINE.
The internet collects and stores information that you and
others post online.

It also records data about you from the way you search for
information online, including your routines, habits, locations
and focus areas of your work. All of this can be used as a
way to target you, so you need to know how to manage your
online image and navigate the internet securely to protect
yourself, your story and your sources.
Best practice: assessing your digital footprint
Take these steps to review your online profile:
Search for your name on a number of different search
engines, including search engines from non-English
speaking countries. Remember to check images and video.
Note anything that could put you at risk.
You can request that search engines remove certain data
about you. Check out individual search engine policies for
information on how to do this.
Check to see if your address is listed online. If so, you will
need to contact the site to have your address removed.
The process to do this will vary depending on the company
and the country. There are paid services that you can sign up
to that will remove that data for you. This will need to be a
continuous subscription as your data is likely to continue to
turn up online in public databases.Check to see if any family
members appear in any search results linked to your name.
Read comments left by people who read, listen to or watch
your work. Note anything that could cause concern.Be
aware that personal photos could be used as a way to
discredit you and your work as a journalist.
Secure your social media sites. See our guide on how to do
this.
Set up calendar reminders to remind you to review your
online profile every few months
Set up Google alerts for your name, including any common
misspellings, this will alert you every time your name is
mentioned online.
Be aware of how your online profile can put you at risk if you
are travelling and working in different countries. Have you
published anything that could upset a government, criminal
group or others?
Best practice: navigating the internet securely
Take these steps to ensure you navigate more securely
online:
Avoid using public computers, including internet cafes. If
you do use them, avoid opening personal accounts, log out
of all accounts when you leave and make sure you clear the
browser history.
Avoid plugging USB sticks into public computers. Public
computers are likely to have virus and malware on them
which can be transferred to your own device via a USB.
Using public wifi is convenient, especially for journalists who
travel – but it is not secure.Protect your devices from
malware and protect your data by using a VPN when using a
public network (see below).
Turn off Bluetooth and other file sharing settings.
Chrome and Firefox are two of the more secure browsers.
They allow you to add extensions to browsers that can help
you use the internet more securely.
When navigating the internet, check that the web pages you
are using are encrypted secure. The URL should have a
padlock and the letters ‘https’. You can add an extension to
Chrome and Firefox that encrypts your data on many major
websites.
Fake domains are websites that are made to look like
authentic websites. Clicking on links on the site could install
malware onto your device. Ensure that you check the site
address carefully to see that it is correctly spelled and that it
has https at the beginning of the address.
Adversaries can target you through malware hidden in
advertising. To prevent this, consider adding an ad-blocker
to your browser, such as Adblock Plus. To block spying ads
and privacy trackers, install Privacy Badger. These are simple
and quick to install. See our guide on malware for more
information.
Using a VPN (Virtual Private Network)
This is a tool that allows you to be more secure when
browsing the internet – very useful if you are using public
wifi in cafes or airports. The VPN hides your IP address,
making it appear as if you are navigating the internet from a
different country.
It can help you access content that might be blocked by
governments.
Be aware that a VPN service is able to see your location and
also your browsing history. If you are concerned that a
government may subpoena the VPN company for your data
then follow the tips below.
Research the VPN service before subscribing, as they vary in
quality and security. A number of VPNs are blocked in some
countries, so research the options before buying.
Check whether the VPN is logging your browsing history and
whether they have a history of sharing that data with the
authorities.
Your internet service provider will not be
able to see what you are looking at online,
but it will know that you are connected to
the internet.
Using a VPN on your phone will hide what
you are viewing, but your mobile phone
company will still be

child’s learning and teach them key life skills. Get insight on
how some gaming benefits young players’ development.
Gaming benefits children in many ways. Playing is a fun and
sociable way to spend time that encourages teamwork and
skill development, which are all good things. However, there
are a few things you need to be aware of:
Some games let children play and chat with anyone in the
world. This means they might come across offensive
language and bullying
Not everyone online is who they say they are.
Children should avoid giving out personal details that could
identify them or their location
Some games encourage players to buy extra elements
during the game – children have been known to run up large
bills without realising it In extreme cases, a form of bullying
called ‘griefing’ can be used as a tactic to win games.
Children may find themselves either bullying or being
bullied Get involved by finding out what type of games your
child enjoys and making sure they’re appropriate for their
age It can be hard to stop some games in the middle of a
battle as there are penalties for quitting. Give your child time
warnings so they know when they need to stop playing and
can plan for it.
With a large number of video games
available for children, it can be
overwhelming to figure out which are best
for your child. We’ve created a checklist to
help you choose games that will keep them
engaged and support them in developing
key skills
