WHAT IS A COVER • A cover letter, is a letter of introduction
LETTER?
attached to or accompanying a resume or
a curriculum vitae(CV).

• A cover letter introduces you and your resume


and CV to potential employers or organizations
you seek to join.
WHY IS A COVER LETTER IMPORTANT ?

• It is the first document an employer sees, so it is often the first


impression you will make.
• A well or poorly written letter can impact whether the applicant
is called for an interview.
• It allows you to personalise your application and show your
personality, attitude, enthusiasm and communication skills.
PURPOSE OF A COVER LETTER

• The goal of a cover letter is to convince employers that you’re interested


in and qualified for a job.
• It presents the match between you and the position for which you are
applying.
• It shows how you are unique in your ability to add value to the
organization.
FORMAT OF A COVER LETTER

• Complete Block Letter Format is followed.


• In Block letter format the text is aligned to the left with single spacing
between the lines and double spacing to separate the paragraphs instead of
the usual indentations.

• The term “résumé” comes from the

PURPOSE OF A RESUME

• Employers don't hire on the basis of a resume alone , but resume should motivate an
employer to meet you. So, the purpose of a resume is to get an interview not a job.
• During the job interview it can serve as a guide for conversation between candidate and
employer.

WHAT IS A CURRICULUM VITAE?

• Curriculum Vitae is a Latin word meaning "course of life".


• It is more detailed than a resume, generally 2 to 3 pages, or even longer as
per the requirement.
• A C.V. lists out every skill, all the jobs and positions held, degrees,
professional affiliations the applicant has acquired, and in chronological
order.

WHAT IS AN INTERVIEW?

• The term interview has been derived from the


French word ‘entre voir’ that means to glimpse or
to see each other.
• By definition it means a meeting for obtaining
information by questioning a person or persons.
• An interview is a conversation between two people
(the interviewer and the interviewee) where
questions are asked by the interviewer to obtain
information from the interviewee.
THE PURPOSE OF AN INTERVIEW

An interview has two purposes :-


• To find if the candidate has the right attitude and fits the
requirement and company culture
• To find the best candidate to fill a vacancy
WHAT DOES AN INTERVIEWER LOOK FOR ? 

• Who you are as a person


• Your knowledge
• Your skills
• Your attitude
• Your ability to interact with people
• Your capacity to take work pressure
QUESTIONS YOU MUST PREPARE FOR IN AN
INTERVIEW

• Tell me something about yourself.


• What are your hobbies ?
• Have you heard about …. (a current topic) ?
• Why should we hire you ?
• Where do you see yourself two years down
the line ?
• What are your expectations from the job ?
• What are your strengths and weaknesses ?
• Give us an example of an adverse situation
at work and how you tackled it ?
HOW TO PREPARE FOR A JOB INTERVIEW

• Analyze the Job - review the job description, consider


what the company is seeking in a candidate.
• Make a Match – Create a list of your strength that
match the job requirement.
• Research the Company - It will help you prepare to
answer interview questions about the company and to
ask the interviewer questions about the company. 
• Practice Interviewing - Take the time to practice
answering interview questions you will probably be
asked. This will also help calm your nerves.
•Get Your Interview Clothes Ready – choose an appropriate interview outfit.
Decide your hair, makeup and accessories.
It's important to be neat, tidy, and well-groomed, and to present a positive image to the employer.
•Arrange your documents – Make multiple copies of your C.V.’s.
Carry your list of references.
•Practice Interview Etiquette - Proper interview etiquette is important. Remember to greet your interviewer, and
everyone else you meet politely, pleasantly, and enthusiastically.
•During the interview:
Watch your body language
Shake hands firmly
Make eye contact as you articulate your points
Pay attention
Be attentive 
Look interested
•Listen and Ask Questions - During a job interview, listening is just as important as answering questions. If you're
not paying attention, you're not going to be able to give a good response.
•Follow Up With a Thank You Note
