by: Leoncio P. Deriada

Reporter: Gwynne Wabe

Riddles:

• A deep well full of knives

•  It dies everyday, then lives every year

• Just within range of sight, yet unreachable

• It's here, its here, but you can not see.

• I have a friend and he is with me everywhere I go.

The story started in a way of stating how the island of Dinagat was
being protected by the flowing skirt of the Immaculada Conception,
the towering saint. Then the people try to abuse the goodness of the
saint Immaculada Conception. Because of the Lady of Immaculada
Conception, the island was not freaquently visited by a typhoon.
People are starting to be corrupt and evil. Men went cockpit, boys
gambled and drunk. Then the women gasified most of their time,
neglecting their children. They even forgot to honor the lord’s day
because of laziness after dancing late Saturday nights. Dinagatnons'
negligence to the religious activities led to the destruction in the
island due to the strong typhoon and how the Mary showed her first
miracle.
Two nights before the fiesta of Our lady Dinagatnon, Nang Tinang, a rich
matron in Surigao was approached by a young girl in her house. The girl
asked if she could borrow a jewel from Nanang Tinang because she is one
of the participant or one of the dancers for the fiesta. Fortunately, Nang
Tinang let her borrowed the golden necklace with crucifix as a locker but
she forgot to ask the name of the little girl. Later then, she realized that
she is still confident that the girl will return her jewel for she promised to
her and she will visit Dinagat on the fiesta. So, she would meet her there.
On the fiesta eve, Nang Tinang arrived in Dinagat and stayed with lola Ana,
one of the devotees of the Lady. In the afternoon of the eve, Nang Tinang
went to the church to see the group of the dancers and also to look for the
girl who borrowed her jewel. Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to see the girl.
Worried Nang Tinang went to the Immaculada Conception to pray and cry
for help to find the girl who borrowed her necklace. As she lift her face to
see Mary. While looking to the face of Mary, she was surprised and realized
that the face of Mary was very much alike to the girl who borrowed her
necklace.
After that, Nang Tinang went home. As she arrives, she checked her

jewelry box and shockingly saw that the borrowed necklace was back

in place. She taught that nobody could return it hurriedly or just for a

day since she rode the first trip from Dinagat to Surigao.
