MOTHER BOARD

PRESENTED BY:
GENE E. SARA
JAMES S. LOPEZ
What is Motherboard?
Is the main circuit board of your computer
and is also known as the main board. It
holds and allows communication between
many of the crucial electronic components
of a system, such as CPU and variety of
components.
Mother Board Origins
1981- IBM Planar Breadboard
1984- IBM AT
1986- Gigabyte Yei Peng Cheng
Taiwan

1987- ECS by Elite Group

Present- ASUS Manufacturer
Mother Board Parts and Functions
CPU Sucket
Contains one or more mechanical
components providing mechanical,
electrical connections between
microprocessor and printed circuit board.
Allows for placing and replacing the
CPU without soldering.
RAM Slots- (Random Access
Memory)
RAM is a hardware in a computing
device where the operating system,
application programs and data in current
use are kept so they can be quickly
reached by the device’s processor.
CIMOS Battery (Complementary Metal
Oxide Semiconductor)
Itgives 'backup power‘. These primary
parameters shall be used when the
system gets booted again. Many
computers use CMOS memory to hold
current time and date.
PCI Slots- (Pheripheral Component
Interconnect)
It’s a built-in slot on a device that allows
for the attachment of various hardware
components such as network cards,
modems, sound cards, disk controllers
and other peripherals.
IDE Port- (Integrated Drive
Electronics)
IDE is a standard type of a connection
for storage devices in a computer. Refers
to the types of cables and ports used to
connect some hard drives and optical
drives to each other and to the
motherboard.
SATA Slots- (Serial Advanced
Technology Attachment)

SATA is a standard for connecting and

transferring data from hard disk drives to
computer systems.
North Bridge
Also called the memory controller is in
charge of controlling transfers between
the processor and the RAM, which is
why it is located physically near the
processor. It is sometimes called the
GMCH, for Graphic and Memory
Controller Hub.
South Bridge

Is a chipset or expansion controller that

manages the basic form of input/output
such as the USB, audio, IDE on a
computer.
I/O Ports

Is a socket on a computer that a cable is

plugged into. The port connects the CPU
to a peripheral device via a hardware
interface to the network via network
interface.
24 Pin Power Supply

It supplies power to the whole

motherboard to function its parts.
Requires of 12 volts.
4 Pin/ 8 Pin Power Supply

It supplies power to the CPU to function

and do its tasks. With a standard of 12
volts.
