COMMUNITY

ACTION

OBJECTIVES
1. recognize the value of undertaking
community action modalities;
2. appreciate the importance of community
engagement, solidarity, and citizenship as
part of community action; and
3. show the impact of community action to
the lives within a community.
Vocabulary words
Stakeholder. It refers to an individual
or organization who shares the same
interest in the fulfillment and success
of a project in a given community.
Vocabulary words

Civic Obligation. A responsibility of a


citizen comprised of actions which
include participation in government, non-
government organizations, and
community activities.

Psychosocial Program. It helps


individuals and communities to heal
the psychological wounds and rebuild
social structures after an emergency
or a critical event.

Community Action
 refers to collective efforts done by people
directed towards addressing social
problems in order to achieve social well-
being. In dealing with community action, it
involves a lot of activities and processes
that increases the understanding,
engagement and empowerment of
communities in the design and delivery of
services to the community.
Community Engagement
 refers to the process of developing
partnerships and sustaining relationships
with and through groups of people
affiliated by geographic proximity, special
interest for the purpose of working for the
common good and addressing issues that
affect their well-being.
Goals of Community
Engagement
1) To build trust;
2) To enlist new resources and allies;
3) To create better communication, and
4) To improve overall health outcomes as
successful projects, evolve into lasting
collaborations.
Solidarity

 defined as a unity or agreement of feeling


or action, especially among individuals
with a common interest and mutual support
within a group.
Citizenship
 Citizenship is defined as legal status defined
by civil, political and social rights. This
means that a person is free to act according to
the law and having the right to claim the
law’s protection. In the context of the
Philippines, we have given our own
individual rights and privileges with a much
stronger sense of individual, collective and
communitarian duties and obligations.
Activity # 1
DIRECTIONS: You will create a comical
skit/comic about a community action. Show
how it made impact to the lives within the
community. Please use the rubric below.
Activity # 2
DIRECTIONS: Write a 2-3 paragraph essay
guided by the following questions and the
rubric:
1. Why community action is important within
a community?
2. What do you think are the duties and
obligations of a citizen in the fulfillment of
community action?
Activity # 2
ASSIGNMENT
DIRECTIONS: Write a 2-paragraph insight
paper discussing the issue of solid waste
management in your barangay. Evaluate what
possible community action needed to solve the
issue. If none, think of possible
recommendations to improve the
implementation of solid waste management.
