It’s not just a sport, but also lifestyle.
It’s part of a Filipino culture, and a part of a
Filipino lifestyle as this is accessible in the
Philippines.
The Philippine Men’s National Basketball team, commonly known as Gilas Pilipinas is the
basketball team representing the Philippines. Joined FIBA since 1936. With 1 FIBA World
Championship, and is consider with the most wins in the Olympics among teams outside the
Americas, Europe, and Oceania, with 5 FIBA Asia Cups, 4 Asian Games men’s basketball gold
medals, and with the most titles in Southeast Asia Basketball Association Men’s championship.
Considered as the powerhouse team in Southeast Asia and one of Asia’s Elite Basketball
teams.
BOXING
It’s part of Filipino heritage. It brought great pride for
the country, as Manny “PacMan” Pacquiao is regarded as
one of the greatest professional boxers of all time. He is
the only eight-division world champion in the history of
boxing all over the world, having won twelve (12) major
world titles of “glamour division” of boxing: flyweight,
featherweight, lightweight, welterweight, as well as the
first boxer to win lineal championship in five different
weight classes.

ARNIS
(Martial Art)
Arnis is the National Martial Art Sport in the Philippines, a three-
weapon based fighting. This is know as Eskrima, or Kali. The sport
emphasizes weapon based fighting using knives, bladed weapon, sticks,
and various improvised weapons. This include hand to hand combat,
grappling, and weapon disarming methods.
Use for combat and self defense.
SIKARAN
(Martial Art)
Sikaran is the ancient art of Filipino foot fighting. A
simple but intense martial art game. This had been
practiced long before the Spaniards came to the
Philippines in 16th Century. It’s a contact sports game,
contest, or tournament using both hands and feet to parry
the attack of the opponent which is usually a strategic
kick.
DUMOG
A Filipino style of wrestling while standing
upright.
SEPAK TAKRAW
(Kick ball)
Similar to volleyball but is played with a woven rattan, without using
hands.
