Transition to Face to Face Classes:

Challenges and Coping Strategies of Teacher

According to the theory of distributed cognition, learners’ performance and learning effects are significantly influenced by the interactions
between the learner and the learning environment (Cole & Engeström, 1993; Nakhleh, Polles, & Malina, 2002).
In conceptualizing adaptability, Martin and colleagues (2012, 2013) refer to the lifespan theory of control (Heckhausen, 1999; Heckhausen
& Shulz, 1995; Heckhausen, Wrosch, & Schulz, 2010). This theory proposes that lifespan development is impacted by an individual’s
capacity to play an active and effective role in adapting to the environmental opportunities and constraints (Heckhausen et al., 2010).
Adaptability is also highly relevant to teachers given that teaching work involves responding to and managing constant change (Collie &
Martin, 2015). The capacity to adapt in order to effectively manage these changes is crucial for teachers’ work in the classroom, staff room,
and beyond.

Abstract - Hierarchical adaptability theory provides a tool for analyzing the mechanisms and processes that living systems use to survive in
uncertain or unknown environments. Adaptability is based on the use of information about the environment to select from a repertoire of
possible behaviors.
