What is waste management?

Waste Management-
refers to the practice of
proper waste disposal.
KINDS OF WASTE
MANAGEMENT (5 R’s)
 REDUCE

It simply means reducing or

lessening the amount of possible
waste materials.

Example: using ecobag to carry

items as one instead of plastic
bag.
KINDS OF WASTE
MANAGEMENT (5 R’s)
 REUSE

It means to use again for the

same purpose the materials as
much as possible.

Example: using old hand-me-

down clothes.
KINDS OF WASTE
MANAGEMENT (5 R’s)
 RECYCLE

It means processing waste

materials to make another
product.

Example: making old papers into

paper ornament.
KINDS OF WASTE

What is it?

PROPER WASTE SEGREGATION is the sorting and

WASTES
separation of waste types to facilitate recycling and proper
disposal. Sorting your waste makes it easier to understand
how to reduce your general waste output, identify items that
can be reused and set aside items that should be recycled.
IMPORTANCE OF PROPER WASTE SEGREGATION

 maintain classrooms’ cleanliness as well as the school

premises.
 revive the simplest way of segregating and proper waste
disposal.
WASTES
 encourage every students to segregate wastes properly.
 achieve waste reduction
 Promote 3 R’s (reduce, reuse, and recycle)
HOW IT WORKS?

1. In every classroom shall have 4 trash bins labelled as:

Biodegradable (paper plates, paper cups, tissue paper, food scraps, dried
leaves, fruit peels, dead plants, wet papers)
Non-biodegradable (Styrofoam, candy wrappers, plastic bags, plastic/foil
food wrapper, used facemasks and wet papers)

WASTES
Recyclables (PET bottles, plastic utensils, and Cans)
Dry Paper (Envelopes, White paper, and folders)
2. Students are required to put wastes that corresponds to the label of the
bins. The CAN, PLASTIC BOTTLES should be flattened before putting
inside the respective segregation bin. On the other hand , papers must
be folded not crumpled.
HOW IT WORKS?

3. The Classroom Officers of the afternoon classes will

monitor the trash bins of the morning classes and the
morning classes will monitor the trash bins of the
afternoon classes if the wastes are properly segregated.
4. The segregated wastes should be placed in a sack.
WASTES
5. A sack of wastes should be disposed to the disposal
area. (beside of JHS Building). (Monday-Friday)

responsible for garbage disposal.)
HOW IT WORKS?

6. The assigned Officers-of-the day(Club Officers) and Science

Teachers will be checked/inspect the bins (using monitoring tool),
if the wastes are properly segregated and disposed and to assure
that these bins are being maintained.
WASTES
Note: YES-O will choose a “MOST-ECOFRIENDLY CLASSROOM
OF THE MONTH”
HOW IT WORKS?

7. The Class/Section who will violate or will not follow the Proper
Segregation of Solid Waste will be given the following punishment:

 First offense- 1 hour school community service for 1 day

 Second offense- 1 hour school community service for 2 days
WASTES
 Third offense- 1 hour school community service for 3 days

Note: The school community service includes ground cleaning,

pulling of grass, cleaning of comfort rooms and weeding the
Gulayan sa Paaralan.
