BRIEF HISTORY
The origin of Futsal can be traced back to
Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1930 when Juan Carlos
Ceriani devised a five-a-side version of soccer
for youth competition in YMCAs.
It is derived from the Spanish or Portuguese
word for "soccer"-- FUTbol or FUTebol, and the
French or Spanish word for "indoor" -- SALon or
SALa.
FACILITIES
The court for futsal on average is 40(L) x 20(W)
meters (131x65 ft.) adding up to a total of 800
square meters (2625 ft.). You can clearly see
that it's almost twice that of basketball: 420 and
800 sq. m. Just like the field, the penalty area is
also bigger.
