The team in a nutshell …

Dr. Haim Ezer

Israeli skull base and complex vascular Neurosurgeon, 8 years of basic
science work, developing a model explaining brain aneurysms initiation,
multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals, author of: "What is a
thought" - unpublished (yet) book.

Assaf Harel
Technology and innovation enthusiastic, entrepreneur; has 20 years
experience in the IT industry, half of them in the healthcare industry
developing PACS and patientcare innovative solutions (Medcon, acquired
by Mckesson and MedCPU).
Prior to AneuScreen held various R&D managerial and leadership roles;
founded Quiksee in 2004 (Acquired by Google in 2010) and Checkmarx
in 2006 (information security company, part of Insight Ventures portfolio).
What is AneuScreen?
• A novel screening procedure for the future
development of cerebral aneurysms
• The result of a six years translational research
• Aneurysms rupture is uncommon, however, the
huge economic burden, makes it cost effective to
screen the entire population.
• This screening test identifies individuals at risk,
for the future development of cerebral
aneurysms.
• Those expected to develop an aneurysm are
assigned to a semi annual follow up regime.
Cerebral aneurysms, a primer
• An out-bulging from
cerebral arteries.
• Ruptures in 30000
Americans annually.
• Average age at rupture is
57.
• Horrible prognosis!
Cerebral aneurysms, a primer - cont.
• Small percentage, ~ 15% will have
“good” results.
• Half a million individuals die each
year due to aneurysms rupture,
internationally.

Cerebral aneurysms, current Tx. options

• Most will present with rupture, with its

devastating prognosis
• Some are found incidentally (e.g. with a
head CT or MRI performed for other
reasons)
• Both groups are followed ~semi
annually, to see if the aneurysms grow.
• Those with aneurysms larger than 8mm
are coiled
Cerebral aneurysms, a primer - cost
• Annual economic burden in the US
is $5.6 billion or $230000 per
individual1
• The problem is NOT aneurysms
which are present in 3~5% of the
population but rather their rupture
• For an individual with an aneurysm,
there is a simple and safe treatment.
• Aneurysms grow in diameter with
time and rupture when they are
more than 8mm.

Brain MRI ~ retail value 700$
• About 1 hour for
full exam.
• We require one
sequence (called
Time of flight) and
takes about 10
minutes.
What is AneuScreen?
• Simple, non-invasive, screening procedure
which identifies individuals at risk for the
later development aneurysms
• A software module which is added to
current CT and MRI software suites and
performs this screening.
• Fully automated!
What is AneuScreen?
• We postulate that the cerebral arteries 3D
configuration, is the main cause of cerebral
aneurysms development.
• AneuScreen is able to identify individuals,
with an aberrant configuration.
• This facilitates a follow-up and prevention
regime.
• The problem is not aneurysms, but rather
its rupture!
What is AneuScreen?
• A fully automated screening procedure
based on any imaging of cerebral arteries.
• The software module takes as an input the
imaging data and decides weather the
tested individual will develop an
aneurysm, in his lifetime.
• Our software module is also able to show
where the aneurysm is to develop.
What is AneuScreen?
• An individual who is found to develop
an aneurysm, will be followed every
few years, to see when an aneurysm
develop.
• Once an aneurysm developed and its
diameter is larger than 8mm, a
cerebral catheterization is indicated.
What is AneuScreen?
• Estimated minimal vascular imaging /
day in the USA: 1000
• For patients already undergoing
cerebral vascular imaging
• 1000 * 35$ * 365 = $12.7Million /
year for USA alone
What is AneuScreen - active screening
• Retail value for a whole brain MRI is ~
$700
• Estimated wholesale price of one MRI
sequence, is 50$.
• The immediate saving, of one ruptured
aneurysm prevention is $230000
• 30000 ruptures / year

Currently available screening procedure

• Based on identifying small aneurysms in

CTA
• Individuals with two first-degree family
members who had a ruptured aneurysm.
• Effective for
aneurysms larger
than 5mm
Other AneuScreen products
• Automatic diagnosis of small
aneurysms for CTA, MRA and DSA
Imaging
• CTA misses 25% most are missed on
MRA
• A software module which connects to
hospital databases and screens its
stored sequences

Transcranial Doppler (TCD)
• Noninvasive
ultrasound device
which replaces the
use of MRA for
AneuScreen.

software (including PACS).
• A standalone software system which will be
manually activated by Neuro-radiologists or
practitioners on any CTA, MRA negative aneurysm
exam.
• A 3D trans-cranial Doppler US Angiography.
• A software module, which connects to hospital
databases, and scans for any cerebral CT, MRI
orangiography datasets, performed in the past.
