Using adjectives

• What is an adjective?
• Describes a person, place, or thing
• Write some common adjectives in the chat
• Read again and find the adjectives in the reading
• Work in a group: Group 1 = paragraph 1, Group 2 = paragraph 2, etc

Adjective Order

When two or more adjective are used, there is an order to follow.


1. Size
2. Age
3. Color
Examples:
4. Nationality
A pearl.
A Bahraini pearl.
5. Material
A round old Bahraini pearl.
Adjectives: Numbers

Numbers are also adjectives. They are


usually before the opinion and factual
adjectives.
Example:
• A Bahraini pearl.
• A beautiful Bahraini pearl.
• Two beautiful Bahraini pearls.
Adjectives: Numbers

There are two types of numbers:


• Ordinal Numbers: First, second, last, etc.
• Cardinal Numbers: 1, 2, 3, etc.

When using both ordinal and cardinal numbers as adjectives, follow


this pattern:
• The first two weeks of the semester.
• The last 10 days of Ramadan.
