 A contemporary Bicolano writer in Bicol,Filipino and
English
 Awarded as one of the Outstanding Bicolano Artist for
2009 in Literary Arts category in Naga City and
Southeast Asian Writers Award for the Philippines in
Thailand
 2012- was named Poet laureate of Albay
 Today, he is a counsilor of the organization Lupon Sa Wika,
A member of National Commission for Culture and the Arts
(NCAA) and director of the Unyon ng mga Manunulat sa
Pilipinas (UMPIL);English: Writers Union of the
Philippines)
MERLINDA BOBIS ( NOVEMBER
25,1959)
 A contemporary Philippine-Australian writer
 Born in Legazpi City province of Albay
 Bicol University High School and completed B.A at
Aquinas University in Legazpi City
 Written in various genres in both Filipino and English
 Works: Rita’s Lullaby – winner of the 1998 Awgie for Best
Radio Play
White Turtle – won the Steele Rudd Award for
Best Collection of Australian
Short Stories and Philippine
National Book Award in 2000.
 Banana Heart Summer – A novel that received the Gintong
Aklat Award (Golden Book Award, Philippines)
 Locust Girl: A Lovesong – won the 2016 Christina Stead
Prize for Fiction.
GIL L. GREGORIO
JUNE 24, 1961 – NAGA, CAMARINES SUR
 He’s been into poetry since 1983 while serving as one of the
staff of the Nueva Caceres Bulletin – the official publication
of the University of Nueva Caceres
 A regular contributor to the Bicol literature publication
 An Tambobong nin Literaturang Bokolnon where several of
his poems in Bicol dialect were published

ROSALES, PANGASINAN
 His writings since 1960 can be describe as epic.
 One of the most widely read Filipino writers in the English
language.
 His novels and short stories depict the social underpinnings
of class struggles and colonialism in Filipino society
 Jose’s work have been translated into
28 languages
 including Korean, Indonesian,Cznech,
Russian, Latvian, Ukaranian and Dutch

the Year) from the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino
(Commission on Filipino Language)
 A poet, writer, essayist, critic, educator with
exceptional achievements and significant contributions
to the development of the country’s literary arts.
 Palanca Awards or Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for
Literature – are a set of literary awards
for Filipino writers.

Is a person who uses written words in different styles
and techniques to communicate ideas.
 The different genres demonstrate a unique facet of the
writer’s society.
 Horror writer will memorialize the discomforts of his era.
 A Science fiction writer will demonstrate the era’s views on
technology, change and widespread social issues.
 A literary writer will display what mundane everyday
life was really like.
 IMPORTANCE OF LITERATURE
 By reading narratives, we can empathized and
understand others.
 Literature is thought provoking; it allows us to raise
questions and gives us a deeper understanding of
issues and situations.
 Literature provides insight into the mind of other
human beings, into the mind of the author and the
minds of the character he or she brings to life.
