Hazrat Abu-Bakr (R.A)
Hazrat Abu-Bakr (R.A) • Hazrat Abu Bakr (R.A) was born in 573 (A.D). He belonged to a noble tribe, Banu Tamim, a Quraish tribe. His father’s name was Abu Quhafa and mother’s name was Fatima (Umm-ul-Khair). Holy Prophet ﷺand Hazrat Abu Bakr (R.A) had a common ancestor, ‘Murra’. Hazrat Abu Bakr (R.A) was named Abul Kabah which was changed by Holy Prophet ﷺwith Abdullah, when he accepted Islam. • Hazrat Abu Bakr (R.A) was an expert in rearing camels, because of this ability; he became famous with the title of Abu Bakr (the father of young camels). He learned reading and writing at an early age. At the age of 18, he became a cloth merchant. He led a pure and pious life even before Islam. Hazrat Abu-Bakr (R.A) • He knew Holy Prophet ﷺfrom his childhood. When Holy Prophet ﷺstarted preaching Islam, he was among the first to accept Islam. He accepted Islam without any hesitation. Once, Holy Prophet ﷺ spoke about this: “Whenever I invited people towards Allah, everyone thought over it and hesitated at least for a while. Abu Bakr, he accepted my call the moment I put it before him and he did not hesitate even for a moment”. • After accepting Islam, he became the first Muslim to preach Islam and to invite people towards Allah. 8 prominent people accepted Islam at his hands on a very first day of his preaching; among them were Hazrat Uthman, Talha, Zubair, Abdul Rehman-bin-Auf and Abu Ubaida (R.A). Like the Holy Prophet ﷺand the early Muslims he also faced the violent reactions of the Quraish. Hazrat Abu-Bakr (R.A) • His daughter Hazrat Ayesha (R.A) revealed that after one incident, in which he had stopped the Makkans from attacking his friend, the Holy Prophet ﷺ, he returned home with hair pulled out of his head, he was a very hairy man and they dragged him along by his beard. • This treatment dater him in his faith and in the fact he made a practice of freeing Muslim slaves who were tortured by their masters such as Hazrat Bilal (R.A) and Hazrat Yasir (R.A). Their masters tortured them so that they would renounce Islam. Hazrat Abu Bakr’s closeness to Holy Prophet ﷺwas sealed by the marriage of his daughter Hazrat Ayesha (R.A) with Holy Prophet ﷺ. Hazrat Abu-Bakr (R.A) • He was the first one to accept the Holy Prophet’s statement regarding ‘Miraj’. For this Holy Prophet ﷺgave him the title of Al- Saddiq (testified to the truth). Hazrat Abu Bakr (R.A) accompanied Holy Prophet ﷺduring migration towards Madina. He spends 3 days and 3 nights with Holy Prophet s ﷺin the cave of ‘Thaur’. • Daughter of Hazrat Abu Bakr (R.A), Hazrat Isma (R.A), provided them fresh food in that cave and his son Abdullah (R.A) informed them about the situation in Makkah. When Hazrat Abu Bakr (R.A) was worried as many enemies were hunting for them. The Holy Prophet ﷺreminded him of the help given by Allah. • The Holy Quran referred to this as followed: “Allah did indeed help him when the unbelievers drove him out, being the second of the 2, they were 2 in the cave” and Holy Prophet ﷺsaid to his companion “Have no fear, Allah is with us”. Both of them safely reached Madina. Hazrat Abu-Bakr (R.A) • He proved to be the most generous on all occasions for the cause of Islam. He paid for the land selected by the Holy Prophet ﷺfor the construction of Masjid-e-Nabvi which belonged to 2 orphan boys (Sohail and Sahil). After Hijrat, he lived by farming. He accompanied the Holy Prophet ﷺin the battle of Badr; he also shared a camel with Hazrat Umar and Hazrat Abdur Rehman-bin-Auf (R.A). • He was close to the Holy Prophet ﷺin the battle of Uhad, when the enemies attacked on Holy Prophet ﷺ, he was among those companions who encircled Holy Prophet ﷺin that battle. He also took part in the expeditions against Khyber, Hunain and Taif. Hazrat Abu Bakr (R.A) was the first companion who accepts the peace Treaty of Holy Prophet ﷺ without any hesitation at Hudaibiya. • On the occasion of Tabuk Expedition, he donated everything that he possessed on the call of Holy Prophet ﷺ. In 9 A.H, 630 A.D, when the first Hajj took place, Holy Prophet ﷺsend Hazrat Abu Bakr (R.A) as his deputy to lead the Hajj. Hazrat Abu Bakr (R.A) also led 17 congregational prayers during the illness of Holy Prophet ﷺin 11 A.H. Hazrat Abu-Bakr (R.A) • When the Holy Prophet ﷺdied, Hazrat Umar (R.A) was in a strong emotional state and kept on shouting that he would slain that person who dared to say that the Holy Prophet ﷺdied. On this occasion Hazrat Abu Bakr (R.A) gave a speech and said “O people if anyone of you worship Muhammad ﷺ, he should bear in his mind that Muhammad ﷺis dead but those who worship Allah should know that he is alive and will never die”. • He participated in digging of grave, bathing and lowering the body of Holy Prophet ﷺinto the grave. Hazrat Abu Bakr (R.A) passed away at the age of 63 years, in 634 A.D, 2 years after Holy Prophet’s death. He was the only caliph among four rightly guided caliphs who died naturally.
