PREPOSITION is a word uses with Nouns, Pronouns and Gerunds, to link them
grammatically to other words. It may express such meanings as position, direction, place,
time.
Preposition of Time: at, in, on
we use at, in, on in these ways:
At + a time of the day at 2 o’clock at 6.30
at midnight at lunch
In + a part of the day in the morning in the afternoon
in the evening
in two weeks in half an hour
at night
On + a day on Monday on Saturday
on Christmas day
On + a day + a part of the day on Monday morning
on Saturday night
On + a date on 4th July on 1st January
At + public holiday periods at Christmas at Easter
In + longer periods in July in the summer
(months, seasons, years) in 1999 in the 19th century
On time and in time
On time means “ at exactly the tight time “
The 1 o’clock train arrived on time. (= it arrived at
o’clock)
Please try to be on time for the meeting tomorrow.
(= be there at the right time, don’t be late)
In time means “ early enough “
We arrived at the station in time to catch the train.
(= early enough to catch it)
I won’t be home in time for dinner tonight. (= early
enough for dinner)
CONJUNCTION is a word which joins words, phrases, or
clauses together.
There are two types of Conjunction;
A.Coordinating Conjunctions
Such as: and, or, but, nor, etc.
Conjunctive Adverbs
Such as: however, even though, nevertheless, etc.
These two conjunctions join in the Compound
Sentence as a Connector.
B.Subordinating Conjunctions
Such as: because, when, unless, that, etc.
It joins in the sub-ordinate clause of Complex
Sentence
INTERJECTION is a word such as ugh!, wow!.
Hi!, which indicates an emotional state or attitude
such as delight, surprise, shock, and disgust.
Examples:
“Ah, hello, eh, dear, hey, hi, hmm, uh-huh, well”
“Ah, that sounds good.”
“Hmm, let me see.”
MODIFYING NOUN WITH ADJECTIVES AND NOUNS

Adjective can modify nouns, as in this example:

CUSTOMS (Douane)
•The Government Service which is responsible for the
administration of Customs law and the collection of duties and
taxes and which also has the responsibility for the application of
other laws and regulations relating to the importation, exportation,
movement or storage of goods.

1.This term is also used when referring to any part of the Customs
Service or its main or subsidiary offices.
2.This term is also used adjectivally in connection with officials of
the Customs, duties and taxes or control on goods, or any other
matter within the purview of the Customs (Customs officer,
Customs duties, Customs office, Customs declaration).
CUSTOMS DECLARATION (Déclaration en douane)

•Any statement or action, in any form prescribed or accepted by the


Customs, giving information or particulars required by the Customs.

1.This term includes declarations made through electronic means.
2.This term also covers action required on the part of passengers
under the dual-channel (red/green) system.
CUSTOMS CLEARING AGENT (Agent en douane)

A person who carries on the business of arranging for the Customs


clearance of goods and who deals directly with the Customs for
and on behalf of another person.

Notes

1.Examples of Customs clearing agents are Customs agents,


Customs brokers and freight forwarders.
2.Some countries require that Customs clearing agents or Customs
brokers be approved or licensed by the Customs.
