A.The site of the first mass
of the Philippines.
The First mass

The first documented Catholic Mass in the Philippines

was held on March 31, 1521, Easter Sunday. It was
conducted by Father Pedro de Valderrama of Ferdinand
Magellan's expedition along the shores of what was
referred to in the journals of Antonio Pigafetta as
"Mazaua".
B. Cavity munity
Cavite Mutiny, (January 20, 1872), brief uprising
of 200 Filipino troops and workers at the Cavite
arsenal, which became the excuse for Spanish
repression of the embryonic Philippine nationalist
movement. Ironically, the harsh reaction of the
Spanish authorities served ultimately to promote
the nationalist cause.

The mutiny was quickly crushed, but the Spanish

regime under the reactionary governor Rafael de
Izquierdo magnified the incident and used it as an
excuse to clamp down on those Filipinos who had
been calling for governmental reform. A number of
Filipino intellectuals were seized and accused of
complicity with the mutineers. After a brief trial,
three priests—José Burgos, Jacinto Zamora, and
Mariano Gómez—were publicly executed. The three
subsequently became martyrs to the cause of
Philippine independence.
THE DEBATE continues.
Since Rizal's retraction letter
was discovered by Father
Manuel Garcia, C.M. in 1935,

Jose rizal its content has become a

favorite subject of dispute
among academicians and
recraction Catholics. The letter, dated
December 29, 1896, was said

contreversy to have been signed by the

National Hero himself.

Jose Rizal’s Retraction Controversy Many historians arguing whether

Rizal retracted from what he had stated about the Catholic Church or
not. From Rizal’s statement: "I retract with all my heart whatever in my
words, writings, publications and conduct have been contrary to my . The document of the retraction

D. Cry of pugad lawin
The “Cry of Rebellion” marks
the start of the revolutionary
events that swept the Spanish
colonies in the late 19th
century. This happens on
August 1896, northeast of
Manila.

The Cry of Pugad Lawin (Filipino language: Sigaw ng Pugad Lawin), alternately and
originally referred to as the Cry of Balintawak (Filipino language: Sigaw ng
Balintawak, Spanish: Grito de Balintawak ) was the beginning of the Philippine
Revolution against Spanish rule.[1] At the close of August 1896, members of the
Katipunan secret society (Katipuneros) led by Andres Bonifacio rose up in revolt
somewhere in an area referred to as Kalookan, wider than the jurisdiction of
present-day Caloocan City and overlapping into present-day Quezon City.[2]
