Dadaism or Dada - a movement in art, literature, music, and cinema
developed in the early 20th century that went against accepted ideas of
what is beautiful or good art and used humour and the absurd(=things
considered silly or that make no sense) as a way to protest against society.

Fundamental characteristics:
 Humour
 Nonsense
 Artistic Freedom
 Emotional Reaction
 Irrationalism
The founder of dada

Hugo Ball was a German author, poet, and

essentially the founder of the Dada movement
in European art in Zürich. In 1916 he started a
satirical night-club in Zurich, the Cabaret
Voltaire, and a magazine which, wrote Ball, ‘will
bear the name ”Dada”.

This photo was taken by an unknown photographer in Zurich for

a publicity postcard to promote the 1916 programme of the
Cabaret Voltaire in Zurich.
"Karawane" is a German poem consisting of nonsensical
words. The meaning however belongs to its meaninglessness,
reflecting the chief principle of Dadaism.
