What is stop motion
animation?
Stop motion animation is a
filmmaking technique in which objects
are physically moved in small increments
and captured one frame at a time so that
when played back, it will give the illusion
of motion. If one thinks of a flip book,
stop motion is similar only it uses
physical objects, instead of drawings.
What is stop motion
animation?
This kind of animation takes a
fairly long time to execute as it is
estimated 12 frames (or pictures)
are about one second of video.
There are a few types of stop
motion animation and they
include manipulating objects,
clay, people, cutouts, puppets,
and more.

Claymation
Claymation is a form of stop-
motion animation where each
animated piece, including
characters and some
backgrounds, is constructed
out of a malleable substance,
which is typically plasticine
clay. Each frame is recorded
on film and then played back
in quick succession to give the
appearance of movement.
Popular Claymation Movies
Pixilation is a frame-by-frame
animation technique which is like
stop-motion Animation but has the
particularity to stage real people. So,
just like stop-motion, the process
consist to capture a series of photos,
using a video camera or a photo
camera. Then we will scroll them at
a 24 frames/sec rate (rate can be
different depending on the format in
which the video will be exported), to
recreate the illusion of movement.
Cut-Out Animation
Cutout animation is a form of stop-
motion animation using flat
characters, props and backgrounds
cut from materials such as paper,
card, stiff fabric or even
photographs. The props would be
cut out and used as puppets for stop
motion. Construction
PaperConstruction Paper provides
the best value for cut-out motion.
Puppet Animation
Puppet animation is the most
commonly used technique in stop
motion.
Models are manipulated in order to
imitate movement by incremental
adjustments of limbs and expressions
for each frame. The technique of
puppet making is one of the most
creative and most multidisciplinary
art forms. If done professionally, it
requires a combination of drawing,
sculpting, building, molding, sewing,
metalwork and many other
quintessential crafts.
