    • The first hybrid car was built in the year 1899 by engineer
    Ferdinand Porsche and named it Lohner-Porsche Mixte .
    • The first mass-produced hybrid vehicle was the Toyota
    Prius, launched in Japan in 1997, and followed by the Honda
    Insight, launched in 1999 in the US and Japan.
    • In January 2020, Toyota passed the milestone of more than
    15M hybrid vehicles (HEV) sales worldwide since the Prius
    was launched.

    • The overall hybrid vehicle market is estimated to be 4,169


    thousand units in 2018 and is projected to grow at a CAGR of
    8.94% from 2018 to 2025, to reach 7,593 thousand units by 2025.

    • Toyota targets 5.5 million HEV sales annually by 2025.
