INTRODUCTION
Early life:

 Karsanbhai khodidas Patel was born in 1944


from a Farmer family in Mehsana, Gujarat.

 He finished his B.Sc. in Chemistry at age 21.

 Thereafter he joined new Cotton mills in Ahmedabad


as a Lab Technician.

 He later joined the geology and mining department


at Gujarat.
ABOUT THE COMPANY

 Karsanbhai Patel was an entrepreneur and philanthropist of


Gujarat, started nirma as one man operation.

 Nirma is a group of companies based in the city


of Ahmedabad that manufactures products ranging
from cosmetics, soaps, detergents.

 It was started as one man operation.

 Today Nirma has over 14,000 employees and a turnover


of Rs. 3,550 crores.
BEGININGS:

 In 1969, while still employed, he started making hand made


quality detergent in his home.

 Naming it Nirma after his daughter Nirupama.

 He would sell bicycle through the local neighbourhoods


to sell the detergent on the way to work.

 Most detergent at that time was priced at around


Rs 13/kg. Nirma was priced at Rs 3/kg.
 Nirma was the instant success in the local neighbourhoods
and offered the great value as a high quality product for a
Low price.

 After three years of Gaining Profits, Karsanbhai Patel left


his job and set up a small workshop in village of Ahmedabad.

PRODUCTS
Nirma Revolution:

 Nirma has been revolutionized the detergent market which


has been dominated by big multinational, Billion Dollar
companies such as Hindustan unilever and Proctor and Gamble.

 Effectively targeted low income families, a large class of society


that had been ignored by established companies.

 Within a decade, Nirma became largest selling detergent in India.


Nirma and Society:

 Nirma was made of an innovative formula which


was phosphate free and deemed Environmentally friendly.

 Since the process of manufacturing Nirma detergent was labour


intensive, they became a leading employer in India.

 Since, Nirma employees were over 14,000 individuals

 In 1969 he started selling detergent, manufactured and packaged in


home and this was an after office business.

 Karsanbhai Patel became successful entrepreneurship and he


provided work for 14,000 employees in very short time.

 Nirma became very successful companies within 3 decades.

 The company had multi- locational manufacturing facilities.
