equal amount of distance per
unit of time.

Constant speed
3
The distance covered by an
object in unit time.

Speed
4
It is a vector quantity that

ACCELERATION
OBJECTIVES:
1. Describe motion in terms of
acceleration “
2. Calculate the acceleration of a
moving object; and
3. Express the importance of the
concepts of acceleration in real life
situation.
9
Study the pictures and figure out if in
the given situation acceleration exists
or not.

Figure 1
10
Study the pictures and figure out if in
the given situation acceleration exists
or not.

Figure 1
The car just maintained its speed and its direction
therefore there is no acceleration.
11
Figure 2

The car did not change its direction, but it increases its
speed therefore, acceleration exists.
12
Figure 3

The car did not change its speed but turned into
different direction, therefore
13 acceleration exists.
Figure 4

The car changed both its speed and direction or

changed its velocity therefore acceleration
exists. 14

ACTIVITY : Pair and Share!
Procedure:
In the given situation, determine whether
acceleration exists or not. If Acceleration
Exists, the pair produce the sound of the
vehicle, if the statement indicates No
Acceleration, the pair produce a honking
sound of a car.

17
1. A boy is riding a motorcycle at a constant speed,
as he reached the corner of the street he turned
left.
2. A bus with a constant speed of 60 km/hr. running
in a straight line.
3. A car from rest gained a speed of 40 km/hr.
4. A racing car that is about to reach the finish line
increases its speed at its maximum.

18
Closure:
When does acceleration exist?
When can you say that there is no
acceleration?

19
ACCELERATION
- the rate of change of
velocity with time.

Sample Problem 1
A car starts to move and
reaches the velocity 80m/s in
10 seconds. Calculate the
acceleration of this car.

21
Sample Problem 1
A car starts to move and reaches the velocity 80m/s in 10
seconds. Calculate the acceleration of this car.

Given:
Initial velocity= 0 m/s
Final velocity= 80 m/s
Time = 10 s

a = vf – vi = 80m/s – 0 = 80 m/s = 8m/s = 8m

Sample Problem 2
2. A truck starting from rest reaches a
velocity of 75 kph in 5.0 seconds.
Calculate the truck’s acceleration in m/𝑠2.

23
Sample Problem 2
A truck starting from rest reaches a velocity of 75 km/h in 5.0
seconds.
Calculate the truck’s acceleration in m/𝑠2.

Given:
Initial velocity= 0 m/s
Final velocity= 75 km/hr
Time = 5 s
How do we convert 75 km/hr?

24
Conversion of units can be done by using the dimension analysis
or the process of converting a unit into another unit of measure by
multiplying the given unit by the conversion factor. What is a
conversion factor? A conversion factor is a number used to change
one set of units to another, by multiplying or dividing.
1 km = 1000m

1 hr = 60 min
1 min = 60 s

25
Sample Problem 2
A truck starting from rest reaches a velocity of 75 kph in 5.0 seconds.
Calculate the truck’s acceleration in m/𝑠2.

Given:
Initial velocity= 0 m/s
Final velocity= 75 km/hr
Time = 5 s

a = vf – vi = 20.83 m/s – 0 = 20.83 m/s = 4.17m/s = 4.17m

t 5s 5s s 𝑠2

GROUP/Activity:
Procedure: Using the given equations, solve the following
problems:
G1 - A boy is running 4.0 m/s. After 2.0 seconds, he runs at a
velocity of 2.0 m/s. What is the acceleration of the boy?
G2- A motorcycle starting from rest reaches a velocity of 25.0
m/s in 4.0 seconds. Calculate the motorcycle’s acceleration.
G3- A race car travelling with an initial velocity of 90 km/h
accelerates at a uniform rate of 5.0 m/𝑠 2 for 2.0 s. What is the
final velocity of the race car in m/s?

30
Road accidents happen almost
every day because of some
reasons.

31
What are
the causes
of road
accidents?

32
How does acceleration or changing
velocity affect road accidents?

How can we avoid these accidents?

Challenge
34
1. Andrew’s motorcycle moved from rest
and reached a velocity of 40 m/s in 5
seconds, will acceleration will be involve
here? Why?
Yes, the acceleration is involved
because the velocity of motorcycle
was changed
35
2. Donnie’s car starts to move and
reaches the velocity 50 m/s in 10
seconds. Calculate the acceleration
of the car.

3. If you are driver, it is important for
you to know the concept of acceleration?
Why?
Yes, because as a driver it is important
that you know when to speeds up, slow
down and change the direction in a
proper way to avoid accident.
