About Our Program
Indian Prairie School District 204 currently
employs a “pull-out” model for the ELL
Program.
• What does this mean?
English Language Learners are
completely mainstreamed into the regular
classroom and are ‘pulled out’ for
specialized instruction with an ELL or
Bilingual teacher.
About Our Program

The English Language Learning Program has two

components:
• Transitional Program of Instruction (TPI)
English Language Learning or English as a
Second Language
• Transitional Bilingual Education (TBE)

Spanish and at certain schools)

administered
• If child scores below the proficient level, they are
enrolled in ELL
• Parent notification forms are sent home

did not?
How long does it take to become
proficient in English?
• Everyone is different!
• Research shows:
» 3-5 years to speak at grade level
» 5-7 years to read and write at grade
level
» 7-10 years to be proficient in
cognitive academic language
Exit Criteria for the ELL Program
• Students must have a composite score of 4.8 or
higher on the ACCESS for ELL’s Test
• Students must have a literacy score of 4.2 or
higher on the ACCESS for ELL’s Test
• Research has shown that when students meet
this criteria, they are successful in the classroom
without additional support
• Every child is different! There are many
variables that determine when a child may
become proficient in English. (home support,
knowledge base of English when entering
school, etc.)
Will my child miss any classroom
instruction when they attend ELL
class?
• No, your child will not miss any classroom
instruction when they are at ELL class!
They attend ELL class during Flex. Group
