Background of Email
• The earliest email was very similar to simply leaving a note on someone's
desk. At first, an email was simply a message that was placed in another
user's file directory, in an area where they would be able to see it when they
logged in. The first email system of this kind was the one used at the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1965. The system was known as
MAILBOX. Another similar program that was used at the time to send
messages was referred to as SNDMSG.
• Email is a free tool- Once you are online, there is no further expense that
you need to spend on in order to send and receive messages.
• Email is simple- It is easy to use. Once your account is set up, composing,
sending and receiving messages is simple. Also, email allows for the easy
and quick access of information and contacts.
Disadvantages of using Email
• The first massively successful PDA was the Palm Pilot, first released in 1996. It did not
feature a keyboard, as some present-day models do, but a screen with touch-selectable
function icons and written character recognition. There was a small suite of control buttons
at the bottom edge of the unit designed to be pressed by the user’s thumbs. So successful
was the Palm Pilot that in many parts of the world the trademarked phrase “Palm Pilot” is
a synonym for PDA, much as the brand name “Kleenex” is a synonym for facial tissue.
• In the late 1990s and early 2000s, PDA sales ballooned. The BlackBerry was
introduced in 1999 and swiftly became the most popular PDA to date. (As of
late 2005, it had about a quarter of total PDA market share.) Wireless
Internet connectivity became standard, and the line between “smart
phones” and PDAs became blurred both technologically and marketwise.
Color screens, cameras, and the many other features named above were
swiftly added.
Advantages of using Personal Digital Assistant
• Cost – One of the greatest hindrances of a PDA is the expense. Other than paying
for the gadget itself, most PDAs require the purchaser to buy in to a utilization
contract. This includes a month to month bill and the chance of overage charges if
the client outperforms his designated free telephone minutes or information limits.
• Interruption – PDAs may likewise turn into an interruption when they’re not
satisfying an authentic need. The capacity to be constantly associated can prompt
sat around riding the Web, settling on telephone decisions or messing around.
Some business clients whine of being “available to come in to work” when their
colleagues and bosses can reach them whenever.
