Teaching Methods • Teacher Centered Approach • Learner Centered Approach • Interactive Approach • Banking Approach • Integrated Approach (Intra-inter-multi Disciplinary) • Collaborative Approach • Direct Approach • Indirect (Guided) Approach • Research Based/Problem Based Approach • Personality Driven Approach • Principle Centered Approach • Meta Cognitive Approach Teacher Centered Approach A teacher-centered approach is one where activity in the class is centered on the teacher. The more traditional or conventional approach. In his approach teacher consider as an authority& he has played a dominant role. Students are bound to accept what teacher has taught to them. Major drawback is that students may have less opportunity to develop thinking & innovating skills so this method is not highly popular. Learner(student) centered Approach This approach has highly flexible system of learning & places the learner at the centre of the learning. This means that the learner or student is responsible for learning while the teacher and institution are responsible for facilitating the learning. This approach encourages student reflection. Interactive Approach: Create opportunities to practice effective social skills both individually & in group. Teacher- student interaction Student-student interaction This approach is effectively used in different training programs, teaching training programs & leadership programs. In this approach, teacher plays a role of facilitator. Banking Approach: Teacher is actually depositing the knowledge and students are trying to cash that knowledge so this is the banking concept of education in which the scope of action allowed to students extend only as far as receiving, filling, and storing the deposits. Instead of communicating, the student only receive, memorize and repeat. Integrative Approach: This approach allows students to engage in purposeful, relevant learning. During lecture, teacher associate one concept of lesson with the previous lecture this is integration. It encourages students to recognize the interconnection & interrelationship between the concepts. Students are able to use their prior experience to construct learning. This approach is useful for development of higher order thinking skills. Collaborative Approach: This is method of instruction basically involve grouping students to work together towards a common academic goal. This method is based on theory that knowledge is a social construct because it includes interaction and social exchange of ideas for deeper learning. There is active exchange of ideas with in groups of students that promotes critical thinking. Collaborative learning is said to attain higher thinking & preserve information for longer times than students working individually.
